Welder / Shop Technician

SDM Co. is seeking a skilled Welder / Shop Tech to handle both welding and mechanical repairs on heavy mining, construction, and diesel equipment. This position requires someone who can lay down high-quality welds and confidently diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW welding on heavy equipment and structural componentsFabricate and repair cracked frames, buckets, booms, and attachmentsPerform line boring and build-up repairs when requiredRead and interpret blueprints and repair proceduresDiagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systemsPerform component removal and installation (pumps, cylinders, undercarriage, etc.)Conduct preventive maintenance and field repairs as neededTroubleshoot system failures and recommend repair solutionsComplete accurate work orders and service documentationMaintain a safe, clean work environmentCommunicate clearly with supervisors and customersOwn and maintain required personal toolsExperience in heavy equipment welding and mechanical repairStrong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skillsProficiency in reading schematics and technical drawingsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionWelding certifications preferred (FCAW, SMAW, GTAW)Commitment to safety and doing the job right the first timeLift up to 50 lbs Work in shop and field environmentsStand, kneel, climb, and work in confined spacesTolerate outdoor weather conditions when requiredWhat We OfferCompetitive pay based on experience100% company-paid health insurancePaid uniforms + weekly laundry service40 hours PTO your first year4 paid holidays annuallyPerformance-based pay increasesTop-of-the-line tools and equipment
