## Job Summary The Lab Technician, Welding Technology, will help maintain the usability and completeness of the Career Academy and Technical School (CATS) Welding labs. The Lab Tech will coordinate with the Lead Welding Instructor to review current lab lessons, materials, equipment, and supplies for accuracy, completeness, and ability to be completed. The lab tech will also help plan and develop future lab activities and will be required to restock, clean, and maintain lab facilities. Essential responsibilities and other duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: **Essential Functions: ** - Ensure lab rooms and stations adhere to 5S standards by cleaning, organizing, and enhancing them - Review and troubleshoot current and upcoming lab assignments/projects - Collaborate on the development of new lab assignments and projects to enhance the scope of existing courses - Assist in managing lab supplies and equipment to uphold operational efficiency - Support the engineering programs of the college - Maintains and completes accurate records of student attendance and grades as indicated by institutional policy and submits all required reports in an accurate and timely manner. - Contributes to institutional effectiveness processes, including program review, course outcome assessment, and grants; contributes to developing the divisions plans of action as needed. - Collaborates with colleagues to ensure quality instruction and the successful implementation of department and division goals, the Colleges Strategic Plan, and state-wide initiatives. - Supports collaboration with other divisions and departments to align comprehensive credit and non-credit courses and programs where appropriate. - Actively supports the Colleges retention, progression, completion, equity, and inclusion initiatives, ensuring social and economic success for all student learners. - Supports the Colleges mission, vision, and core values by adhering to all policies, procedures, and faculty guidelines. **Marginal Functions: ** - May participate in the Colleges recruitment efforts; reviews and provides recommendations for the program publications, webpage, publicity, and other community relations activities and events. - Assists with the inventory of programmatic equipment; assumes responsibility for labs and other facilities designated primarily for the assigned program. - Supports college functions and cultural activities. - Perform other duties as assigned. *This position description covers the essential functions and duties associated with this position. The college reserves the right to alter duties, responsibilities, conditions, working hours, and job title with or without notice.* **Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) and Working Conditions:** ** Knowledge of:** - Principles and procedures of record keeping and documentation. - Safe work practices, procedures, and OSHA requirements applicable to welding laboratories. - Operational characteristics, maintenance requirements, and safe use of welding equipment, tools, and related laboratory equipment. - Welding processes, including SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and GTAW (TIG). - Metal fabrication techniques, welding symbols, blueprint reading, and measurement tools. - Inventory management and organization of laboratory tools, equipment, and consumable supplies. - The mission, goals, values, policies, and procedures of Mitchell Community College. - Current trends, technologies, research, and developments in welding and manufacturing. - Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and safety standards. **Ability to:** - Demonstrate welding and metal fabrication skills in an instructional laboratory environment. - Safely operate welding cutting, grinding, and fabrication equipment. - Organize, maintain, and improve welding laboratories, tools, equipment, and consumable supplies using 5S principles and industry best practices. - Troubleshoot welding equipment and assist students and faculty with laboratory activities. - Interpret and apply College and assigned division goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. - Interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and safety requirements. - Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing. - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and the public. - Work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team. - Follow and enforce safety rules, procedures, and regulations of the department and College. - Understand and follow oral and written instructions. - Maintain accurate records and documentation. - Demonstrate strong organizational, problem-solving, customer service, and time-management skills. - Support student success, continuous improvement, and the teaching and learning mission of the College. **Required Experience:** - High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Welding Technology or a related field preferred. - Minimum of one (1) year of experience in welding, metal fabrication, manufacturing, maintenance, or a related industrial environment. - Experience with one or more welding processes, including SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and GTAW (TIG). - Experience safely operating welding and metal fabrication equipment. - Experience reading and interpreting basic blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings. - Knowledge of welding shop safety practices, including OSHA requirements and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). - Ability to lift and move materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. - Strong reading comprehension and adeptness in word processing **Preferred Experience:** - Familiarity and expertise in 5S organizational principles - Experience in a welding training, educational, apprenticeship, or workforce development environment. - Experience with oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, and grinding equipment. - Experience maintaining welding equipment and performing minor repairs. - Experience with inventory control, shop organization, and 5S principles. - Current AWS welding certification or ability to obtain certification. - Experience working with high school or community college students. **Required Training:** - High School Diploma or GED **Equity in Learning and Employment:** Equity and belonging are crucial to who we are.
