Welding Engineer

ResponsibilitiesPerform expert level break‑fix and preventative maintenance, including observing devices in operation to locate root cause of problem; dismantling devices to access and remove defective parts; inspecting parts for defects; adjusting functional parts; repairing/replacing defective parts; testing devices to confirm performance; performing tests for electrical circuitry and mechanical systems; reconditioning and repairing machine tools.Identify and source parts, supplies and repair items as necessary, evaluating alternatives to improve cost and/or reliability.Perform maintenance independently as per industry standards.Collaborate with customer counterparts to optimize maintenance, reliability, and preventive maintenance procedures.Set up and operate multiple machining operations (lathe, drill press, grinder, other metalworking tools) to create and repair parts; may perform welding tasks.Comply with customer contractor codes of conduct, housekeeping standards, and safety processes.Document work performed in service reports, applicable management systems, and write explanations of observations and equipment performance data.Provide assistance to lower‑level technicians and leadership to project teams, performing expert functions as part of training and development.Troubleshoot and analyze complex control systems to resolve in‑depth software/hardware and configuration problems.Use advanced maintenance technologies to collect equipment performance data, observe trends, and make recommendations.Complete and conduct on‑the‑job training and technical self‑study programs for career development.Follow all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions and guidelines; maintain situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSAs), & Competencies:High School Graduate or equivalent (GED).Associate's degree with a technical focus and 10 years of related experience in a specific industry; or 12 years of experience in a specific industry.Comprehensive understanding of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems; ability to analyze problems, synthesize alternative solutions, and perform repairs.Ability to use basic hand tools and specialized tools as appropriate.Experience in condition‑based maintenance techniques, precision mechanical alignments, and maintenance of applicable process equipment.Experience in programmable logic controllers, field device troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical drive and motor systems.Strong personal discipline.Physical Demands and Working ConditionsRegularly required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, ascend/descend or balance to heights that may require a ladder or lift; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces; and talk or hear. Occasional requirement to sit. Occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Regular use of close vision and color vision. Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Work typically performed in a factory environment that is usually very loud.
