Welding Inspector (CWI)

CERTIFIED WELDER INSPECTOR

Position Summary:

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for inspecting and verifying welded components and assemblies to ensure they meet company specifications, customer requirements, and aerospace industry standards. This role performs visual and dimensional inspections, reviews welding documentation, and ensures compliance with quality and regulatory requirements. The CWI works closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to maintain product integrity and ensure welding processes meet required specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspections of welded components and assemblies to verify compliance with engineering drawings, welding procedures, and specifications.
• Inspect weld quality, dimensions, and workmanship to ensure conformance with aerospace and customer standards.
• Review welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder qualifications.
• Verify that welders are properly certified and qualified for the welding processes being performed.
• Document inspection results and maintain accurate inspection records.
• Identify nonconforming welds and work with production and quality teams to determine corrective actions.
• Support root cause analysis and corrective action investigations related to welding defects.
• Assist in the development and review of welding procedures and inspection plans.
• Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards such as AS9100 and welding certification requirements from the American Welding Society.
• Participate in internal and external audits related to welding processes and quality control.

Experience:

MIG welding: 10 years (Preferred)

• Tig Welding: 10 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• Certified Welding Inspector (Required)

Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Write simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees. Must know how to read and write English language.

Mathematical Ability: Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Compute rate, ratio and percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: Basic

Certificates and Licenses: High School Diploma or GED, AWS D17.1_D17.1M _D1.1 Mig & Tig welding.
