A Brief Summary of This Position
This individual will lead training through Valmont's welder training program, on-the-job coaching, and administer welder qualifications per applicable AWS standards. Additionally, this role supports the improvement, maintenance, and troubleshooting of welding processes within the plant and, when required, in the field.The Weld Trainer/Technician collaborates closely with operations, quality, safety, and engineering teams to ensure process excellence, workforce development, and code compliance.
Essential Functions:
Reports to the site Welding Supervisor and has no direct or indirect reports.
Travels up to 20% of the time, within the United States.
Executes training program, and maintains applicable records
Performs process audits, reports, and corrects deficiencies
Identifies and implements opportunities to improve training
Completes Root Cause Analysis and Deploys Corrective Actions
Identifies and implements opportunities for improvement related to compliance, quality, productivity, throughput, and cost reduction
Training topics include, but are not limited to:
Shop safety
Welding essential variables, and techniques
Engineering drawings
Welding Symbols
Welding Operational Cost & Productivity
Valmont Specifications & procedures
Quality Standards & inspection test methods
Defect types, cause, and repair
Metal cutting & gouging
Valmont specific processes and equipment
Provides Hands-on training for:
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), including Metalcore & Pulse (GMAW-C, & GMAW-P)
Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW-G)
Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
Plasma/Oxyfuel Cutting
Carbon Arc Gouging (CAG)
Grinding/Sanding

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
The working environment is a combination of industrial shops, dedicated training area, classroom, and office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time, as well as participate in production and team meetings (both in person and remote). The environment is challenging; the employee will be exposed to seasonal temperature changes, overhead crane traffic, loud noise, and other job-related hazards. The work can be fast paced, and stressful, the candidate must be capable of regulating their emotions, and deescalating conflict. Additionally, the candidate must have the patience to educate weld trainees with little to no prior welding experience. When performing work, the employee must lead by example and wear all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), use applicable safeguards, and follow applicable procedures.
