The Wellness Resource Center (WRC) provides health promotion and prevention programs and services for undergraduate and graduate/professional students on a large university campus. Situated within Student Health & Well-Being, the WRC works closely with Counseling Center, Student Health Center, and Rape and Sexual Violence Prevention (RSVP) Center professionals to provide a wide range of opportunities for students to assess their well-being, develop effective strategies, and think critically so they can enjoy thriving well-being. Our staff collaborates with campus partners, student organizations, and students to develop and implement effective programs and services. The Well-Being Peers program specifically utilizes evidence-based Peer Education to expand upon the prevention and promotion efforts of the WRC Staff.

Job Description

The University of Missouri's Well-Being Peer Program seeks a motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated student to serve as the group's Peer Coordinator. This position works in collaboration with the Peer Health Education Coordinator staff member at the WRC, the Education Coordinator staff member of the RSVP Center, as well as the Outreach Coordinator student position. This position increases the potential impact of the Well-Being Peer group through strategic leadership of their peers and time dedicated to extending the reach of the group. A successful candidate will have a passion for well-being, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a desire to help their peers succeed.

Essential Functions of the Peer Coordinator:

The roles of the Well-Being Peers leadership team extend past their roles and expectations as outlined in the handbook as Peer Educators. Tasks and expectations related to active membership outside of leadership duties will not be compensated. Candidates will only be compensated for time spent on leadership specific duties as outlined below:

  • Assist the Peer Health Education Coordinator with planning and leading weekly peer meetings.
  • Regularly communicate updates to peers through GroupMe.
  • Create and send weekly newsletter/meeting minutes to peers.
  • Plan and facilitate team building activities and events.
  • Create high quality, engaging, and accurate marketing content for a variety of platforms and audiences.
  • Maintain a content calendar for Student Health and Well-Being socials in partnership with the Peer Health Education Coordinator and Student Health and Well-Being Marketing.
  • Collaborate with the Outreach Coordinator to ensure coverage at outreach events.
  • Collaborate with other peer leaders to ensure presentations are current, coherent, engaging, and visually appealing.
  • Identify opportunities to collaborate on health and wellness efforts in the campus community.
  • Meet regularly with the Peer Health Education Coordinator and other relevant staff members.
  • Assess needs, plan, and implement at least one larger event per year.
  • Collaborate with all the staff of the WRC and Student Health & Well-Being.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$15.40 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Average number of hours per week: 8-12.

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. Selection is contingent upon results of a review with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Student Accountability & Support, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, previous MU appointment history, and reference checks.

  • Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and directional skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers within dynamic populations and with differing needs.
  • Strong understanding of culture and trends to utilize in marketing strategies.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups.
