Job Title: Wellness Coach

Reports to: Site Coordinator/ Program Manager (day-to-day operations); clinical oversight and case supervision provided by MLCs designated licensed supervising provider (school psychologist/social worker) per the WR-MLC MOU

Status: Full-time; Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Location: Multicultural Learning Center (MLC), 7510 De Soto Avenue, Canoga Park, CA 91303 (San Fernando Valley)

Hours of Operation: 8 hours/ day, Monday-Friday. 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (schedule includes during and after school hours) Exact times pending MLCs final bell schedule

Hourly Range: $28.84 - $33.99 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)

What We Do:

Woodcraft Rangers provides TK-12 expanded learning programs, including before and after school, specialty enrichment, and summer learning. In the past few years, Woodcraft has expanded its menu of services beyond traditional afterschool programs and summer camps to include early learning, environmental and social justice, college access, and inclusion services for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, we offer LifeCraft, a college and career advancement program to support the development of approximately 2,250 staff. Today, Woodcraft Rangers serves more than 30,000 youth ages 4 to 18 each year across 150 plus Title I schools in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, and continues to expand its reach.

Role Overview:

The Wellness Coach is a Certified Wellness Coach (CWC) position embedded at Multicultural Learning Center (MLC) as part of Woodcraft Rangers push-in partnership with MLC. During the school day, the Wellness Coach delivers push-in SEL lessons, pull-out small group and 1:1 sessions, and structured check-ins during recess, lunch, and transitions - reinforcing MLCs social learning curriculum and thematic SEL calendar. During the afterschool block, the Wellness Coach supports Woodcraft Rangers afterschool programming, carrying the same SEL themes forward for continuity across the students day. This role works under the day-to-day management of the WR Site Coordinator/Program Manager, while clinical oversight, case consultation, and recommendation of services are provided by MLCs designated licensed supervising provider, consistent with the supervision model established with MLC.

Responsibilities:

School Day - Wellness Coach Function

  • Deliver push-in SEL lessons aligned to MLCs thematic SEL calendar and social thinking curriculum (TK-5th grade)
  • Facilitate pull-out small-group and 1:1 check-ins/coaching sessions using a student-led, conversational approach
  • Provide structured, proactive support during recess and lunch (play-yard and peer-support groups) and during key transition points
  • Support yard duty, transitions, and school-day routines alongside MLC staff
  • Follow MLCs existing behavior plans and de-escalation protocols; Woodcraft Rangers approach is 100% non-restraint and de-escalation focused - Wellness Coaches are not licensed clinicians and do not provide crisis intervention
  • Coordinate with MLCs school psychologist, social worker, Behaviorists, teachers, and Administration and participate in weekly check-in planning/collaboration meetings
  • Complete session documentation (follow-up, and group session notes) to meet MLCs billing and compliance standards
  • Refer students with escalating, chronic, or severe behavioral or mental health needs to MLC Administration per established protocol
  • Other duties as assigned

Afterschool - Continuity of Support (SITE COORDINATOR OVERSIGHT)

  • Support Woodcraft Rangers afterschool programming (2:40-4:30 PM), reinforcing the SEL themes introduced during the school day
  • Facilitate peer mediation, community circles, and emotional regulation activities as needed
  • Maintain consistency with the behavior expectations and plans established during the school day
  • Contribute to student progress documentation and communicate relevant updates to site leadership
  • Collaborate with the Site Coordinator on de-escalation and behavior-support strategies for students, stepping in when incidents arise and communicating with families as needed to maintain a consistent, supportive experience across the day.
  • Wellness Coach will report to the Site Coordinator during afterschool programming

Site Support

  • Build rapport and establish trust with students, MLC staff, and the WR team
  • Communicate relevant student information across school-day and afterschool teams within established protocols
  • Participate in required trainings and certifications, including Wellness Coach Certification, Crisis Prevention and Intervention (non-restraint/de-escalation model), Foundational SEL Training, and Psychological First Aid
  • Participate in MLC-provided training on their SEL/social-thinking curriculum, behavioral expectations, and behavior team meetings
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills:

Required

  • Wellness Coach Certified (CWC), or eligible and willing to complete certification through Woodcraft Rangers certification pathway prior to or shortly after hire
  • Associates degree or higher in psychology, social work, education, child development, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience working with youth in a school, community, or therapeutic setting
  • 2+ years of experience working in a learning environment within diverse communities
  • Must reside in or be able to reliably commute to the San Fernando Valley / Canoga Park area
  • Must be available to attend onboarding and trainings at Woodcraft Rangers Headquarters in Little Tokyo or the satellite office in West Covina
  • Wellness Coach Certification, Psychological First Aid Certification, and additional SEL trainings (provided by WR)
  • Ability to use a smartphone for work-related communication
  • Strong relationship-building skills - able to establish trust quickly with youth and adults
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently within an established, shared-oversight structure (MLC clinical protocols + WR management)
  • Comfort with documentation and basic data tracking (session notes, exit tickets, SDQs)
  • Collaborative mindset - able to learn and work within MLCs established systems while communicating feedback or recommended adjustments as needed
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds - both youth and adults

Preferred

  • Knowledge of SEL frameworks, trauma-informed practices, healing-centered engagement, and restorative approaches
  • De-escalation and conflict mediation skills
  • Background in SEL, behavior support, and/or youth mental health preferred

Supervision & Oversight Structure:

This role sits within a shared-oversight model established between Woodcraft Rangers and MLC:

  • Woodcraft Rangers: hires, certifies, schedules, and manages the Wellness Coach; leads weekly planning coordination; ensures documentation is completed
  • MLC: provides the licensed supervising provider of record (school psychologist / school social worker) who oversees and recommends Wellness Coach services, provides clinical case consultation, and reviews documentation for billing
