General Function

The Wellness Services Coordinator will play a critical role in assisting the college and members of the community by attending to their overall well-being and reducing barriers to success. This position will engage with public safety students and employees, as well as community members who seek assistance with physical health, mental health, social support, basic needs and financial needs. Acting as a screener, liaison, facilitator, and program coordinator, they will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to ensure appropriate referrals to campus and community services. In addition, the Wellness Services Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, organizing, executing, and assisting in campus events, data collection, and documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide individualized assistance to students, college employees, and community members by connecting them with providers, health education services, community resources, and social support services addressing their individual needs

  2. Develop and execute comprehensive wellness programs tailored to the needs of Public Safety students.

  3. Promote regular fitness evaluations and health screenings.

  4. Lead mental health awareness initiatives and stress management workshops.

  5. Foster a confidential, supportive environment where staff can openly discuss mental health concerns without stigma.

  6. Manage referrals and access to confidential counseling and mental health services.

  7. Build partnerships with community organizations to support wellness for personnel and their families

  8. Provide a welcoming environment for students, clarify their needs, identify priority concerns, and connect with appropriate resources

  9. Answer inbound calls and email inquiries regarding well-being support services and lifestyle clinic referrals; makes follow-up communications to connect patients and customers with services

  10. Complete screenings on students, employees, and community members as needed to determine referral needs, then link to appropriate services

  11. Serve as a subject matter expert on community and college resources related to health and wellness needs

  12. Work with school and community resources; connect, build, and maintain collaborative relationships with agencies, organizations, and support groups

  13. Coordinate, organize, promote and carry out events related to health and wellness and basic needs services. This includes the coordination of basic needs services including the food pantry.

  14. Track, collect and report data needed for the Wellness Center

  15. Practice patience, tolerance, tact, and diplomacy while maintaining a positive demeanor with appropriate boundaries in working with clients, providers, and the community

  16. Communicate effectively and provide professional service to individuals with diverse levels of education, financial resources, and health literacy

  17. Use appropriate confidentiality as it relates to HIPAA/FERPA rules

  18. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in health education, wellness, psychology, counseling, health promotion, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years frontline experience in an educational, medical or social services setting
  • Experience with confidential records (e.g., HIPPA, FERPA, Title IX)
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of mental health, suicide prevention, substance use prevention, and wellness best practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and tools
  • Demonstrated problem solving, decision making, and critical thinking
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with a friendly and positive demeanor
  • Experience with public speaking and presentations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree related to a Human Services or Health Profession field
  • Public Safety Experience
  • Crisis Intervention Training
  • Community Health Worker or Wellness Coach certification
  • Certified Peer Support Specialist
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish (spoken and written)
  • Experience in event planning or program development

Additional Information

  • Experience or training in wellness, health education, case management, or clinical setting required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, emphasizing oral and listening abilities
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions:

Typical office environment; infrequently lifting and carrying items up to 10 lbs.; infrequently twisting or bending at the waist or reaching overhead; infrequently traveling between buildings on campus or to other campuses; frequently listening to and talking with students, faculty, and other staff members either in person or by telephone; frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer display, keyboard, and mouse.
