Job Summary

The Wellness Warrior will work with the Community Health Coordinator and Project Coordinator to serve as trusted health messengers within the broader Viejas community. The Wellness Warrior is responsible for performing a variety of duties relating to community health, with an emphasis on bridging any gaps between Viejas Yaytaanak Wellness Center and Tribal and Community members and holding safe spaces for fellow community members in need of peer support.

Job Description

• Assists the Community Health Coordinator and Project Coordinator with identification of priority health concerns in the community
• Assists the Yaytaanak Wellness Center staff in bringing health information and messages to Tribal and community members, especially those who have not accessed the YWC
• Attend monthly meetings at the Yaytaanak Wellness Center to brainstorm solutions to any encountered challenges, provide feedback on recent or ongoing programming, and bring highlighted health issues to the attention of Yaytaanak Wellness Center staff
• Provide confidential peer support to Tribal Members and community members who are experiencing mental health issues, substance use, and/or recovery.
• Ensures that a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment is maintained.
• Adheres to all company and department policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Does not provide supervision to other team members.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• There is no required work experience necessary
• Lived experience of recovery, mental health, and healing is preferred
• Good knowledge of health, wellness, and recovery
• Good knowledge of mental health, substance use, and recovery resources available to Tribal Members and community members
• Excellent oral communication skills
• Must be dependable and can work cooperatively with others, and must value teamwork
• Ability to work independently and maintain a high degree of confidentiality
• Ability to multitask and work well under stress.
• Must be a self-starter and able to adjust to change.
