The Assistant Teacher at the Greater Cleveland YMCA, provides direct supervision of a group of children in licensed child care center. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall child care experience.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintain safety of children at all time through appropriately supervising program participants at all times while maintaining YMCA and state licensing staff to child ratios, providing aid when needed, and ensuring daily cleaning and maintenance of facility.
Support teachers in daily instruction according to the YMCA curriculum, as well as daily operation of classroom.
Meets daily with the teacher to review activities and ensure continuity of classroom support strategies, as well as activity preparation and implementation.
Assists in implementing age-appropriate techniques relative to the behavior management of children to ensure program quality expectations.
Actively supervises classroom and proactively manages classroom behaviors
Support the teacher in meeting the individual needs of students
Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
Attends staff meetings and trainings.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsible for following the child abuse and neglect reporting process. All employees of the YMCA of Greater Cleveland are mandated reporters for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education
High school Dipolma or GED; Associate Degree preferred.Experience:
1 year of experience working with children in a licensed child care center preferred. · 1 year experience working with diverse populations preferred. Certification(s) and Requirements:
CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 90 days of hire.
At least 18 years old.

Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, instruct and bend for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
Ability to work in a moderate to noisy work environment.
