JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: High School Assistant Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meets requirements as outlined in Louisiana Bulletin 746 (Louisiana Standards of State Certification of School Personnel) for Educational Leader and the West Feliciana School Board
  • Physical and mental stamina and ability to perform job functions, tasks, and duties

SUPERVISES: As assigned by principal/supervisor

SALARY: As designated on Salary Schedule (1.425 factor)

Job Goal:

  • To assist and support the school principal in providing vision, culture, and instructional leadership that efficiently and effectively results in increased student achievement. To lead the district in creating an organization of one, increasing student achievement and establishing school community relationships. Louisiana Leader Rubric Domains and Indicators will be used for Leader evaluations in conjunction with measures of student growth. Measures of student growth will be aligned with the Louisiana Accountability System.

Overview of Responsibilities and Duties:

  • All responsibilities and duties outlined in the Louisiana Leader Rubric.
  • Observe teachers and provide feedback on instruction regularly
  • Assist the school principal in overseeing daily operations and managing the overall functioning of the school, including but not limited to scheduling, facilities management, and resource allocation, effectively as measured by the leader evaluation rubric, and in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Collaborate with school principal and other administrators to review, draft, examine, recommend, and implement school policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Assist in developing and managing the school budget, allocating resources effectively to support instructional and operational needs; monitor expenditures and coordinate the procurement of supplies, equipment, and instructional materials
  • Coordinate standardized testing and assessment schedules, ensuring compliance with state and district regulations as assigned.
  • Mentor and support new teachers and staff members providing guidance and resources for professional growth.
  • Participate in the preparation of necessary disciplinary documents and corresponding disciplinary processes for students and staff.
  • Assist in the assignment of substitute teachers and class coverage
  • Coordinate and supervise events related to the profession including but not limited to: faculty meetings, open house, family nights, graduation, athletic events, awards programs, co- and extracurricular events and other types of related activities as part of job duties associated with the school building leader.
  • Supervise instruction of students, ensure timely submission and integrity of grades and parent communication when appropriate.
  • Supervise students when students are on campus and/or at all times while representing the school - including between classes, recess, breakfast/lunch, assemblies, field trips, athletic events, extra-curricular activities, etc.
  • Supervise students prior to school/morning arrival process and after school/afternoon dismissal process
  • Develop and coordinate supervision of students to ensure orderly protocols and procedures are followed to establish a safe school environment.
  • Facilitate and/or attend faculty, staff, department, and grade level meetings.
  • Facilitate training sessions and professional development when needed.
  • Serve as ODR for IEP meetings.
  • Schedule and attend parent-teacher conferences, as needed.
  • Facilitate family engagement events such as back-to-school, open-house events.
  • Attend meetings generally associated with the instruction of students including but not limited to IEP, SBLC, evaluation, observation, and discipline meetings/hearings, and serve on special committees (e.g., 504, SBLC, Pupil Progression, Crisis, Dyslexia,) as needed or as required by district administration and perform related work as required.
  • Monitor, implement, and enforce all policies and rules governing student conduct and effective school operation.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and support for students' extracurricular activities
  • Address student misconduct in a consistent, positive, and fair manner
  • Investigate incidents of student misconduct, address behavioral issues, and administer disciplinary actions when necessary, adhering to district policies for documentation and timely communication with district administration, law enforcement, parents, and outside agencies as needed.
  • Coordinate student assignment and staffing for disciplinary consequences (TOR, detention, suspension, hearings, etc.)
  • Communicate discipline decisions to parents and district personnel when appropriate.
  • Perform various administrative duties to ensure efficient and effective school operations, including but not limited to the following:
  • Fulfill duties traditionally expected of those in the education profession.
  • Perform any duty, not specifically assigned, as deemed necessary by the assigning authority in order to maintain continuity where needed.
