Job Description

Job Summary

Shriners Children's Philadelphia is seeking a full-timeWheelchair and Durable Medical Equipment Technician to provide seating and mobility equipment needs for a variety of orthopedic diagnoses to infants, toddlers, preschool, school age, adolescents, and young adults. Also to attend assigned clinics and work with a multidisciplinary team providing the team and patient / family with expertise in Seating and Positioning, and DME.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge & skills necessary to assess, set goals, & plan for care of infants, toddlers, preschool, school age, adolescents & young adults with a variety of orthopedic needs, to provide the most appropriate seating system for the patient.

• Patient treatment is carried out in accordance with standards of care and under the direction of a Physical or Occupational Therapist. 

• Demonstrates knowledge, skills & ability to provide for adaptive equipment needs of the patient. Follows department policy of working through vendors & patient insurance, or donations from outside sources.

• Evaluates and monitors need for adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, and seating systems.

• Fix electrical issues, replace batteries, test joysticks, adjust brakes, and change tires or inner tubes of power and manual wheelchairs.

• Help adjust seating , footplates, and frame components to match a wheelchair user’s specific physical needs.

• Clean caster wheels, lubricate moving parts, and check safety hardware of manual and power wheelchairs.

Required Qualifications

• CPR certification or the ability to complete within three months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years seating and mobility technology 

• ATP certification

• Experience with mechanical assembly and adjustment

Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
