Job Description

Title: Sonographer – Safety Sensitive

Department: Non-Invasive

Reporting Relationships: The Sonographer is under the direct supervision of the Clinical Lead.

Location: Arkansas

Job Summary: The Sonographer is responsible for performing high quality diagnostic exams/procedures in the Ultrasound department in an efficient manner according to the physician's order. The Sonographer works effectively with patients and physicians and maintains cooperative relationships with interdepartmental personnel.

Job Duties

  1. Complete studies in a timely and efficient manner, utilizing downtime to assist others where needed.
  2. Assure exam charges and the 5-day late list are checked daily for the ultrasound department.
  3. Organize workload during high volume to expedite patient care and communicate pending exams and pertinent information to other technologists.
  4. Assist the physician in performing radiology procedures.
  5. Promote positive relationships within the department and communicate concerns with the supervisor.
  6. Maintain supplies with minimum inventory and develop efficient methods of supply utilization.
  7. Handle equipment safely and appropriately while maintaining a clean work area and following equipment cleaning policies.
  8. Follow the on-call policy by responding within the required timeframe and arriving within 30 minutes when called in.
  9. Assist with procedures in other areas of Radiology when needed.
  10. Follow attendance and tardy policies.
  11. Follow WRMC dress code and appearance policy.
  12. Participate in required hospital and departmental in-services and meetings.
  13. Follow safety and infection control policies.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Sonography.
  • Registered by ARDMS and/or CCI within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification upon hire or within 30 days.
  • Bachelors degree required

Training & Experience

  • Vascular and/or echocardiography experience preferred.
  • Must be able to perform Echo and Vascular studies (TTE Echocardiograms, TEE, stress echo, venous reflux exams, venous dopplers, carotid doppler, arterial doppler, ABI, pericardiocentesis, Thrombin injections and vein mapping exams).
  • Must be able to start IV's to administer Definity contrast.

Job Knowledge

  • Experience with Arkansas Department of Health requirements and a clear understanding of hospital operations is required.

Essential Functions:

  1. Report to work fit for duty and free of the adverse effects of illegal drugs, medical marijuana, prescription medication, and/or alcohol.
  2. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  3. Prepare patients for diagnostic testing by verifying physician orders, patient identity, and coordinating with nursing units when necessary.
  4. Explain procedures to patients and families and answer questions to reduce anxiety.
  5. Obtain high-quality diagnostic studies according to department protocols.
  6. Maintain current BLS certification and ARDMS and/or CCI credentials.
  7. Current equipment: 3 Philips CVX Epiq machines, 1 Philips Ellite Epiq machine and Vasculab ABI machine.

Preferred registered applicants in RDCS and RVT. Weeknight call and holiday call rotation.

Physical Demands:

Job responsibilities require a considerable amount of physical work, including assisting with lifting and moving patients, pushing carts, wheelchairs, and equipment, and handling loads of up to 300 pounds. Frequent walking, bending, stooping, repetitive hand and wrist movements, and operation of medical equipment are required. The individual must also be able to respond quickly throughout the hospital during emergencies.
