The WIC Buddy Specialist is responsible for leading and coordinating the WIC Buddy Program at the local agency level. Reporting to designated Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) staff, this role ensures that families receive meaningful peer-to-peer support to strengthen breastfeeding success and overall program participation.
Key duties include promoting the WIC Buddy Program, enrolling and matching participants, managing consent forms, and maintaining clear communication with families about their involvement. The Specialist also assists with monitoring program performance measures and collaborates with the Local Agency’s Breastfeeding Program Coordinator, Nutrition Services Director or designee to reinforce best practices and implement improvement strategies.
Through these efforts, the WIC Buddy Specialist helps foster supportive connections among participants and empowers families to thrive through breastfeeding.

The use of wellness breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and assist employees in meeting their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes in a given workday may be used to engage in wellness activities, generally in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.
