Affinia Healthcare is a community health center providing medical, dental, pharmacy, and other health services to the city of St. Louis through walk-in clinics, mobile units, and school-based programs.

The Nutritionist position provides nutrition education to Women-Infant-Children (WIC) eligible participants and assesses their nutritional needs for certification eligibility.

Education: • Bachelors degree in public health nutrition, Dietetics, Home Economics, or closely related field, including or supplemented by at least 15 semester hours in foods and nutrition, including one course in diet therapy and one course in community nutrition. • Applicant must attend extensive training courses provided by the Missouri Department of Health.

Experience: • Two years of experience in the field of nutrition. • One year as a public health nutritionist. • One year of counseling and customer service experience desired.

Skills and Abilities: • Ability to analyze data and input into computer systems. • Requires an energetic self-starter who is a good team player. • Ability to handle multiple tasks. • Requires the ability to maintain composure and positive attitude under stress. • Good oral and written communication skills, including the preparation of brief narrative reports. • Good computer skills, including the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and e-mail software.

Licenses and Certifications: • Registered Dietitian or R.D. preferred.

Essential Functions: Conducts group education classes in nutrition, demonstrates food preparation, meal planning, and food shopping procedures.

Assists in preparing and implementing nutrition education plans and developing educational materials.

Assesses and monitors clients dietary intake and nutritional status, addresses nutritional or health-related concerns.

Reviews, analyzes, and interprets medical information provided by medical staff and provides certification and nutrition education to patients.

Issues WIC checks to eligible clients.

Monitors daily phone calls, appointments, patient files, and monthly reports.

Counsels patients and families for health promotion and therapeutic diets.

Participates in group planning conferences and coordinates services with other departments.

Refers patients to other health or social services and maintains communication to assure coordination.

Takes accurate weights and measurements of clients for HPA certification.
