Nature of Work

Under general supervision performs work of considerable difficulty in the management of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program; performs related work as assigned.

This position is funded by the Women, Infants, and Children grant and the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling grant

Typical Duties

  • Implements the WIC program to align with and support the strategic plan
  • Plans, develops, implements, administers, and evaluates the WIC program
  • Assesses community needs and engages community resources to enhance the WIC program
  • Researches best practices and implements strategies to increase effectiveness of the WIC program
  • Works with community partners to create innovative solutions
  • Writes grant proposals and develops new funding sources
  • Prepares and administers program budgets, with administrative oversight
  • Monitors budget expenditures
  • Develops, evaluates, and revises policies and procedures to improve program efficiency and effectiveness
  • Supervises, evaluates, and engages in performance management with assigned personnel
  • Negotiates, administers, and monitors contracts
  • Ensures adherence to federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations
  • Maintains working relationships with community agencies and organizations
  • Develops programs to create community awareness of service availability
  • Develops and implements training
  • May assist other divisions within the department
  • May serve as team leader and periodically as multi-agency team leader or project manager

Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: driving; working with and around others; co-workers, clients, agencies, etc.; working alone; vision acuity (near and far); dealing with interruptions; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in nutrition (community nutrition, public health nutrition, nutrition education, human nutrition, or nutrition science) or a related field (such as home economics or biochemistry) with an emphasis in nutritional science and one year of supervisory experience;

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Number of years working in a WIC program may substitute for some years of education.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must obtain an Arizona drivers license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Fingerprint clearance may be required.

This position is exempt from overtime.

This position is safety sensitive.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Active Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential is preferred.

Bilingual in Spanish and English with strong verbal communication skills in both languages is preferred.

Masters degree in nutrition or related field of study is preferred.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, verbal and written, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work with minimal supervision, be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and have experience managing schedules.
