Position Description

Position Title: Wildlife Research Technician

Department: Field Conservation Research Department

Supervisor: Field Research Project Manager

Supervises: None

FLSA Status: Full-time, Regular, Non-Exempt

Pay: $22.57 per hour

General Statement:

The Wildlife Research Technician assists with field research projects in the Arizona/Sonora borderlands, Costa Rica and elsewhere, supporting wildlife-related data management, field work deploying and servicing conservation technology and preparation and maintenance of field equipment.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist with field work deploying and servicing conservation technology equipment in rugged terrain (top priority).

  • Manage wildlife data, including wildlife camera still images and videos, acoustic recorder/detection data, and environmental data.

  • Prepare and maintain field research equipment.

  • Assist Field Research Project Manager in preparing written reports (board reports, grant prospecting and reporting, manuscripts, etc.).

  • Assist in prepping materials for and training volunteers and interns.

  • Participate in guest interaction in support of the ACNC''s mission and goals

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences.
  • Ability to participate in field research activities in remote areas. Field research often includes long work days and long hikes (up to 15 miles/day) carrying equipment (including water, technical and camping gear), and use of off-road vehicles.
  • Availability to work a flexible and varied schedule that includes overnights, weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays. Out-of-town, overnight multi-day travel and camping will occasionally be required.
  • Experience with MS Windows environment, database entry (MS Excel) and word processing (MS Word) required. Ability to learn to use specialized computer programs for conservation and experience working with complex databases preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing, including partner organizations. Working knowledge of Spanish would be beneficial.
  • Experience working in Arizona native ecosystems, including knowledge of native species, especially ground birds and native mammals preferred.
  • Knowledge of camera-trap technology and related field techniques preferred.
  • Ability to work well with others and independently.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crawl and walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, often in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a 4-wheel drive vehicle and tow a truck and trailer set-up in off-road conditions.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check, drug test, DMV check and clear annual TB test.

Salary

Starting at $22.57 Per Hour
