      Job Description

       
      FUNCTION:  Responsible for assisting Hunt Supervisor & Director of Wildlife Management in the management of wildlife and its habitat on Brays Island Plantation as well as serving as an assistant to the dog trainer.  Responsibilities include guiding hunts for owners and guests and training, maintaining of bird dogs, and assisting in the daily care and wellbeing of all dogs under the care of Brays Island Plantation.  Ensures that all support and service is conducted and fulfilled in a manner consistent with the vision of “One Brays” goals and objectives.
       
      DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
      1. Prepares for and provides deer, quail, turkey, and duck hunts for owners and guests during designated seasons, ensuring safety measures are adhered to and the hunters are provided a premier experience.
      2. Responsible for conducting safety program with owners surrounding various hunts.
      3. Ensures the upkeep, installation and repair of deer stands, and fence lines.
      4. Plants for and maintains bird patches and food plots; mowing of woods/hunt roads; tree trimming and on-going maintenance of hunt fields.
      5. Assists with maintenance of flight pens and feeding of flight pen birds.
      6. Responsible for processing game, including tracking and retrieving downed deer and delivery to processor.
      7. Assists with Hunt department trips and seminars.
      8. Responsible for care and wellbeing of Brays Island Plantation dogs and owner-boarded dogs.
      9. Involved in the process to acquire, train, and maintain a high level of performance for all Brays Island hunting dogs.
      10. Consults and assists owners regarding the care and training of dogs.
      11. Assists with all dog/veterinary services and record keeping.
      12. Responsible for all offseason dog exercise to include the principle of or similar to “Road, Run, Rest”.
      13. Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the workshop/outside areas, including cleaning tools and equipment after use.
      14. Prepares hunt reports, accounts receivable tickets, and general recordkeeping such as licenses, shell ordering/counts, etc.
      15. Responsible for operation and daily maintenance on all equipment.
      16. Assists with prescribed burning program.
      17. Foster a “One Brays” culture that ensures alignment to values, employee engagement, owner-centricity, and resource sharing. 
      18. Provides exceptional customer service to owners, guests, internal, and external partners. 
      19. Other duties as assigned.
       
      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
      1.         Capable of working extended hours, to include weekends and holidays as necessary.
      1. Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
      2. Must also be able to use a pen or pencil to write.
      4.         Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities.
      5.         Position involves climbing, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 75 lbs.   This movement can occur throughout the day.  Must be able to transport oneself around the plantation.  Must be able to drive a car, and possess a valid driver's license.
      6.         Must be physically and intellectually capable of operating a computer, telephone and various other routine business items.
       
      ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
      1. Working environment is both indoors and outdoors.  Required to perform job in all types of weather conditions.  Work day will be divided in varying percentages from well-lighted, temperature-controlled work area to exposure of all types of weather elements.
      2. The employee will be in the vicinity of site-specific vegetation and native species of reptiles and mammals, subjecting the employee to possible injury from contact or bites.  Proper footwear, headgear, and maintenance attire should be worn for protection including appropriate PPEs.
      3. Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and delays.  Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and         cheerfully under such circumstances.  For safety reasons, employee must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns.        
      4. Must be able to work effectively and cheerfully in an environment, which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.       
       
      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
      Education:       High school graduate and/or equivalent of education and prior knowledge of kennel operations. High knowledge of firearm safety.  Basic knowledge of first aid.
      Skills:               Highly effective interpersonal skills, strong customer service experience, problem solving abilities and advanced communication skills a plus. 
      Experience:     1-2 years Minimum of gun dog and/or retriever training; 1 year of kennel operations experience preferred.
      Personality:     Must be able to effectively interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented with good reasoning skills.
