Windows Engineer

A hands‑on Senior Infrastructure Engineer who will own and elevate an on‑premises and hybrid Microsoft environment. This role is the technical anchor for infrastructure — setting standards, defining the roadmap, mentoring a junior engineer, and governing a co‑managed MSP. What You’ll Own

On‑Premises Infrastructure

Reliability, scalability, lifecycle, and security across servers, virtualization platforms, storage, backup and recovery systems, and core networking outcomes.

Hybrid Identity & Microsoft 365

Active Directory, Entra ID, Entra Connect, hybrid Exchange, and the systems connecting on‑premises and cloud environments.

Reliability & Operations

Structured patching, monitoring, capacity planning, incident response, backup validation, and disaster recovery readiness.

Automation & Standardization

PowerShell automation for provisioning, bulk changes, reporting, and recurring maintenance.

MSP Governance

Technical ownership of the co‑managed MSP relationship — defining requirements, validating work quality, and aligning delivery with internal architecture and security posture.

Team Development

Daily coaching, script review, knowledge transfer, and growth planning for the Junior Infrastructure Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

• Escalation point for complex infrastructure, virtualization, networking, backup, and hybrid identity issues.

• Define and maintain infrastructure standards, runbooks, inventories, and architecture documentation.

• Build and execute a prioritized roadmap covering modernization, lifecycle, risk reduction, and business continuity.

• Plan and run migrations, upgrades, consolidations, and hardware refreshes with controlled rollout practices.

• Manage patching and vulnerability remediation cadences with clear exception handling.

• Monitor performance, capacity, availability, backup success, and emerging operational risks.

• Test disaster recovery procedures, document dependencies, and close readiness gaps.

• Write and review PowerShell automation for provisioning, maintenance, and reporting.

• Partner with MSP on networking and platform changes, owning architecture, acceptance criteria, and final review.

• Balance roadmap execution with incident response, troubleshooting, and occasional after‑hours support.

Required Experience

• 6+ years of progressive infrastructure or systems engineering experience with senior‑level ownership.

• Deep hands‑on expertise with Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware and/or Hyper‑V, enterprise storage, and backup/DR platforms.

• Strong hybrid identity experience: Entra ID, Entra Connect, hybrid Exchange.

• Proven PowerShell automation skills.

• Experience in a co‑managed MSP model — setting direction, reviewing delivery, ensuring alignment.

• Experience mentoring junior technical staff.

• Clear written and verbal communication with strong documentation habits.

Preferred Experience

• Administering Microsoft 365 at scale, ideally in an E5 environment.

• Formalizing infrastructure operations as a company grows beyond a single‑engineer model.

• Relevant Microsoft, VMware, security, networking, or infrastructure certifications.
