Pay Range: USD $70,500.00 - USD $85,000.00 /Yr. Overview:

A talented, passionate individual with the skill and desire to contribute to an outstanding IT team. This position provides technical experience as part of a team that proactively monitors, maintains and grows the technical infrastructure supporting the daily operations of the University. The System Administrator reports to the Director of Network Services and Information Security.

Your primary residence must be in one of the following states to work remotely:

Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Wisconsin.

Responsibilities:

Windows Server Administration
Deploy, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments across physical and virtual infrastructure
Manage OS lifecycles including patching, upgrades, decommissioning, and capacity planning
Maintain server hardening standards and security baselines

 

Active Directory & Identity management
Design, implement, and maintain Active Directory services including domain structure and health monitoring
Manage complex Group Policy Objects (GPO) — creation, testing, scoping, and troubleshooting
Administer role-based access controls, privileged access management, and account lifecycle processes

 

Cloud Services Administration (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace)
Administer the Microsoft 365 tenant; manage service configurations, compliance policies, licensing, and tenant security settings
Administer Google Workspace; manage organizational units, user provisioning, sharing permissions, and service-level policies via the Admin console
Manage application integrations, third-party app access, and API permissions within both platforms
Audit, evaluate, and deploy services across both Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace according to University needs

 

Patch Management & Endpoint Compliance
Operate and maintain patch management systems (WSUS)
Develop and maintain patch schedules, reporting, and exception processes
Monitor endpoint compliance and drive remediation across the server fleet

 

Automation & Scripting
Write and maintain PowerShell scripts for administration, automation, and reporting
Identify repetitive manual processes and build durable, documented automation in their place

 

Monitoring & Incident Response
Maintain and tune system monitoring; respond to and resolve alerts
Participate in root cause analysis following incidents and contribute to post-incident documentation
Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation shared across the team

 

Policy, Documentation & Collaboration
Recommend and help develop policies and procedures related to Windows infrastructure and M365 services
Maintain accurate technical documentation for systems, configurations, and processes
Collaborate across IT and with university departments to deliver solutions and resolve escalations
Identify and independently develop projects that benefit the department or the broader university community

Qualifications:

Education:


Minimal Qualifications:
• Completion of secondary education (high school) or equivalent

 

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or similar concentration

Essential Skills:

Technical — Required
Solid working knowledge of Windows Server administration (2016/2019/2022)
Hands-on experience with Active Directory and Group Policy
Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration
Functional PowerShell scripting ability — writing scripts, not just modifying them
Understanding of DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP fundamentals
Familiarity with virtualization concepts (Proxmox, VMware or equivalent)
Experience with patch management tools and processes
Understanding of backup and recovery concepts and tools

 

Technical — Beneficial
Experience with SCCM endpoint management
Knowledge of databases and database management
Experience with monitoring platforms (Nagios, Zabbix, or similar)
Familiarity with Linux server environments
Experience in higher education or other large, heterogeneous enterprise environments

Strong troubleshooting instincts — you work through the problem methodically and document what you find
