Wine Director

Join the team at Massara. Massara is the second restaurant from Michelin-starred Chef Stefano Secchi and the sister restaurant to Rezdôra. Since opening in 2024, Massara has become a celebration of Southern Italy, with a particular focus on the food, wine, and hospitalitytraditions of Campania.

After an unexpected kitchen fire forced us to temporarily leave our home, we're excited to return to our original space at 913 Broadway. As we begin this next chapter, we're looking for a Wine Director who wants to help shape the future of one of New York City's most unique Italian wine programs.

Our cellar features wines of Southern Italy, with Champagne serving as the only exception. It's a focused, intentional program that celebrates some of Italy's most exciting producers while giving guests access to one of the world's great wine regions alongside exceptional grower and house Champagnes.

This is an opportunity to inherit a thoughtfully built program while having the creative freedom to evolve it, strengthen producer relationships, and make it your own.

What You'll Do

As Wine Director, you'll oversee every aspect of the wine program, including purchasing, inventory management, pricing strategy, vendor relationships, staff education, and sales performance.

Working closely with the General Manager and Director of Operations, you'll manage the financial health of the program while continuing to elevate the guest experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Curating and evolving our Southern Italian and Champagne wine program
  • Managing purchasing, inventory, pricing, and COGS
  • Building relationships with importers, distributors, and producers
  • Leading and developing our sommelier team
  • Creating meaningful wine education for the front-of-house team
  • Driving wine sales through thoughtful hospitality rather than pressure
  • Supporting nightly service on the floor
  • Collaborating with the kitchen and bar teams to deliver a seamless guest experience
  • Organizing producer visits, educational programming, and special wine events

Who You Are

We're looking for a leader first and a sommelier second.

Advanced Sommelier certification is preferred, but exceptional experience, hospitality, and leadership carry just as much weight.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has experience managing a wine program in a high-volume fine dining restaurant
  • Has deep knowledge of Italian wine and genuine curiosity for Southern Italy
  • Appreciates the role Champagne plays alongside great food and hospitality
  • Leads with humility, professionalism, and accountability
  • Understands both hospitality and the business side of restaurants
  • Enjoys mentoring and developing people
  • Is organized, dependable, and follows through on commitments
  • Remains calm, positive, and solutions-focused during busy services

Why Massara?

This is more than maintaining an existing wine list.

You'll have the autonomy to shape one of New York City's most distinctive wine programs, focused on Southern Italy with an exceptional Champagne selection. You'll work alongside Chef Stefano Secchi and a leadership team committed to excellence while helping write the next chapter of Massara as we return home to 913 Broadway.

As our company continues to grow, this role offers long-term opportunities for advancement, performance-based bonuses, producer relationships, educational programming, and international travel.

If you're passionate about hospitality, inspired by Southern Italy, and excited by the opportunity to build something special, we'd love to meet you.

Compensation: Salary ($90.00 - $100.00)
