    Position Summary


    The Wire EDM & Conventional Programmer / Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating Wire EDM and conventional machining equipment to manufacture precision tooling and components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications. This position also supports Tool Room operations by manufacturing, modifying, repairing, and maintaining tooling, fixtures, and production aids while meeting established quality, safety, and productivity requirements.


    Key Responsibilities


    Wire EDM Programming & Operation



    • Program, set up, and operate Wire EDM machines to produce complex, high-precision components.

    • Develop, edit, and optimize programs using CAM software or machine controls.

    • Set up workpieces, fixtures, wire guides, and consumables.

    • Select appropriate wire type, power settings, and cutting parameters.

    • Perform skim cuts and finishing operations to achieve tight tolerance and required surface finishes.

    • Monitor cutting conditions and troubleshoot machine or process issues.


    Conventional EDM & Machining



    • Program, set up, and operate conventional EDM equipment.

    • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T symbols, and manufacturing documentation.

    • Select proper tooling, fixtures, speeds, feeds, and machining parameters.

    • Perform in-process inspections and adjust offsets or processes to maintain dimensional accuracy.


    Inspection, Maintenance & Team Support



    • Inspect completed parts using calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.

    • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.

    • Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and documented work instructions.

    • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Tooling, Manufacturing, and Quality personnel.

    • Support continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives.



    Required Qualifications



    • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training is preferred.

    • Minimum of five years of experience programming and operating Wire EDM and conventional machining equipment.

    • Strong experience with Wire EDM programming, setup, and process troubleshooting.

    • Advanced ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.

    • Knowledge of machining principles, materials, tooling, and precision measurement methods.

    • Proficiency with precision measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and height gauges.

    • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple setups, and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.


    Preferred Qualifications



    • Associate degree or certification in Machining, Tool & Die, or Manufacturing Technology.

    • Experience with CAM software such as BobCAD-CAM, Esprit, Fusion 360, SolidCAM, or similar systems.

    • Tool and die, mold-making, or precision tooling experience.

    • Experience working in ISO 9001, AS9100, or another regulated manufacturing environment.

    • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods.

    • Follow all applicable Quality Management System procedures, requirements, work instructions, and documentation.

    • Maintain awareness of the company Quality Policy and Quality Objectives.

    • Support continuous improvement activities and contribute to the overall mission of the organization.


    Physical Demands & Work Environment



    • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

    • Exposure to typical machine-shop conditions, including noise, fluids, and metal debris.

    • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe safety footwear.

    • Ability to safely operate heavy machinery while following all applicable safety requirements.
