STS Technical Services is hiring Wire Harness Assemblers in West Point, Mississippi.

This position supports the fabrication, assembly and inspection of wire harnesses and cable assemblies for defense and commercial programs. The role requires hands-on experience reading engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, wire lists and assembly schematics while producing work that meets strict quality and workmanship standards.

Candidates should have previous wire harness or cable assembly experience, strong attention to detail and familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 requirements.

Position Overview

The Wire Harness Assembler is responsible for building and inspecting wire harnesses and cable assemblies in accordance with engineering documentation, contract requirements and internal quality procedures.

Work includes cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering and terminating wires, installing connectors and hardware, routing and bundling wire, completing required documentation and performing electrical testing.

Assemblies may be produced to IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 2 or Class 3 acceptance criteria depending on contract requirements.

Assembly and Fabrication

  • Fabricate wire harnesses and cable assemblies from engineering drawings, wire lists, wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Cut, strip, crimp, solder and terminate wires to specified lengths and connector configurations
  • Install connectors, contacts, splices, heat-shrink tubing, backshells, strain reliefs and related hardware
  • Route, lace and bundle wire in accordance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and applicable MIL-SPEC workmanship standards
  • Operate hand and pneumatic crimping tools, wire strippers, soldering stations and heat guns
  • Assemble products to IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 2 and Class 3 acceptance criteria as required
  • Verify wire lengths, connector placement, pin locations and termination quality
  • Maintain assembly tools and equipment in proper working condition

Print Reading and Documentation

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, wire harness diagrams, wire lists, bills of materials and assembly work orders
  • Follow assembly schematics, technical instructions and contract documentation
  • Identify discrepancies between drawings, work instructions and physical hardware
  • Escalate documentation or hardware discrepancies to the appropriate lead or engineering representative
  • Accurately document completed work on travelers, work orders and inspection records
  • Maintain traceability and production documentation throughout the assembly process

Quality and Compliance

  • Perform in-process and first-article inspections
  • Verify dimensional, electrical and workmanship compliance
  • Conduct continuity and point-to-point testing using multimeters and harness test fixtures
  • Inspect crimps, solder joints, terminations, connectors and wire routing
  • Identify, segregate and tag nonconforming material in accordance with quality management system procedures
  • Follow nonconformance reporting and corrective action processes
  • Maintain compliance with ITAR requirements for defense-related contract work
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities when required
  • Follow internal quality procedures and applicable customer requirements

Workplace and Safety

  • Maintain a clean, organized and FOD-controlled work area
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Use required personal protective equipment
  • Follow electrostatic discharge precautions
  • Handle tools, components and materials safely
  • Assist with training junior assemblers when directed
  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Help maintain an efficient and orderly production environment

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of two years of wire harness or cable assembly experience in a production environment
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, wire lists and assembly schematics
  • Proficiency with hand and pneumatic crimping tools
  • Experience using wire strippers and soldering equipment
  • Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards
  • Basic electrical knowledge, including continuity, polarity and connector pinout
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to perform accurate work while meeting production schedule requirements
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical or vocational training in electronics, electrical assembly or a related field
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified IPC Specialist certification
  • CQE certification
  • Experience with MIL-SPEC connectors, including MIL-DTL-38999 and MIL-DTL-5015
  • Experience with M85049 backshells
  • Experience assembling to J-STD-001 soldering standards
  • Previous experience supporting defense, aerospace or government-contracted programs
  • Familiarity with ERP or MRP work order systems
  • Experience using electronic travelers
  • Experience with harness test equipment
  • Experience using automated continuity test fixtures

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at an assembly workstation
  • Manual dexterity for crimping, soldering, wire termination and other fine-motor assembly tasks
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds without assistance
  • Corrected vision sufficient to read small text, wire gauges and color codes
  • Color vision required
  • Ability to work in a production facility where solder flux fumes may be present

Work Environment

This position is performed in a climate-controlled manufacturing facility.

The work environment may include exposure to soldering fumes, adhesives and cleaning agents. Required personal protective equipment and ventilation are provided.

Some overtime, weekend work or shift flexibility may be required to meet contract delivery schedules.

Employees supporting defense contracts are subject to ITAR compliance requirements and may be required to complete a background investigation.
