General Summary

The Wireless/Telecommunication Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently performing a wide variety of field activities associated with installing, maintaining, and testing various telecommunication and wireless communication systems, components, & equipment in both the private and government sectors.

Essential Job Accountabilities
  • Install, configure, test and maintain wireless and other telecommunication equipment and systems including antennas, radios, RF/ fiber optic cabling, and associated equipment.
  • Perform site surveys, signal testing and system optimization to ensure quality and reliability of service.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve network and equipment issues in a timely manner.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and equipment inspections, document and report findings.
  • Climb and work safely' on towers, rooftops, poles, and other elevated structures as required.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with industry safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation using company tools and systems.
  • Collaborate with foreman, engineers, and other technicians to complete projects on time and to specifications.
  • Respond to service calls and outages as required, including after-hours or on-call assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Safety and industry related certifications (e.g. OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NWSA TTTl, Authorized Climber, Competent Climber/ Rescuer, Rigging, RF Awareness training, First Aid, CPR & AED), preferred.

Work Experience
  • Experience in the wireless/ telecommunication construction industry, private and/or government sectors, preferred.
  • Experience in Small Cell (SC) sites, New Build (NB) sites, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Tower Modifications (MODS), Microwave installation, coax, fiber optic cable installation and splicing, Cats/ Cat6 and testing (Sweep/ PIM), preferred.
  • Experience with IP Networks, VoIP, wireless technologies, and digital communication systems, a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to test and troubleshoot fiber optics, coaxial, and Cat5/Cat6 cabling preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints/ site drawings, equipment spec sheets and scopes of work.
  • Ability to diligently operate industry related equipment and power tools within designated area.
  • Ability to work in safety sensitive construction settings, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with a team or work independently with supervision.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work weekends, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).
  • Travel may be required.
  • Work is performed both in the field and indoors. This may involve exposure to outdoor elements, heights, confined spaces, and around electrical equipment.
  • Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down. See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to work at various heights on ladders, rooftops, aerial lifts, and communication structures.
  • Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.
  • Ability to perform lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.
