Position Summary

Campus Fellows are the frontline organizers driving the Badger Youth Organizing (BYO) / Badger Youth Action (BYA) mission at key universities in Wisconsin. Fellows lead robust, on-the-ground civic engagement efforts focused on empowering young people, especially youth of color, to vote and take action on the issues they care about most.

This role will be responsible for executing direct voter contact strategies, including canvassing, class presentations, club outreach, and tabling, to register and educate students, promote voter participation, and build a visible presence for BYO/BYA on your campus. You’ll also support key administrative duties, manage event logistics, attend campus organizational meetings, and maintain social media channels to elevate civic content.

This role is for someone energized by talking to new people, passionate about civic power, and eager to turn campuses into hubs of democratic participation. The strongest candidates will be bold, creative, and deeply committed to meeting students where they are, in dorms, clubs, classrooms, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct Voter Contact (90%):
    • Engage students to promote civic engagement and emphasize the importance of their vote.
    • Street canvass, table, canvass door-to-door (in dorms and off campus), visit and present to class/student clubs, and relational organizing.
    • Facilitate conversations that encourage students to reflect on key issues (climate change, education, jobs, etc) and how elections directly impact their lives.
    • Register students to vote.
    • Educate students with essential voting resources.
    • Leverage campus networks (clubs, organizations, friends, classes, professors, faculty, etc) to collaborate on events, voter registration drives, and other opportunities.
  • Administrative duties (10%)
    • Assist with registering BYO as an approved student organization at your campus.
    • Attend student organization administrative meetings and trainings.
    • Coordinate event logistics, including booking tabling and event spaces.
    • Attend regular meetings and strategy session meetings (date, time, locations vary by campus).
    • Ensure all voter registrations are filled out completed and accurately, and supported with data entry.
    • Establish and/or manage campus social media accounts on Instagram and TikTok, including managing Linktree accounts with appropriate resources and information.

A successful candidate for this job will:

  • Be comfortable approaching strangers, be eager to talk to as many students as possible.
  • Have a passion for civic engagement and inspiring young people to get involved.
  • Be excited to think outside the box and to ideate and innovate to find the most exciting and effective ways to talk to students.
  • Be scrappy and flexible; able to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Be a self-starter, exceptionally well-organized, and have strong time management skills.
  • Be enrolled at one of our focus universities.
