The Nekoosa School District

The Nekoosa School District is a Pre-K-12 public school system located in central Wisconsin, which serves students in the city of Nekoosa and townships of Armenia, Port Edwards, Rome, and Saratoga. The District serves 900+ students within its three buildings. The District also serves 255 students through WISE Academy, the virtual charter school. The mission of the Nekoosa School District is to develop students who excel academically, act responsibly, display good character and citizenship, and reason and solve problems rationally. We focus on preparing our students with the skills they will need to succeed in a global community.

About WISE Academy

Since 2018, Nekoosa Public Schools has been providing virtual education in grades 4K-12 through WISE Academy, a virtual charter school within the District. WISE offers families another avenue for educating children in an at-home learning environment under the direction of professional staff. With continued, calculated growth, there is a need to expand and grow the number of staff serving WISE students and families. The individual to secure this position will join a small staff of extremely talented and dedicated individuals working to serve students and their families in an at-home environment.

Position Summary

WISE Academy is seeking an innovative and relationship-driven educator to help shape the future of virtual and alternative learning opportunities for students across Wisconsin. This position will use the successful candidate''s strengths to both support families and the expansion of virtual learning opportunities.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about connecting students to meaningful, real-world learning experiences while leveraging technology to increase access, engagement, and achievement. This individual will support a diverse caseload of K-12 learners, collaborate closely with families, and help develop systems that position WISE Academy for future growth in online learning and academic intervention services.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Virtual Learning Program Development

Instructional Design

  • Design and organize digital learning experiences aligned to Wisconsin Academic Standards and student learning goals.

  • Utilize LMS tools, analytics, and progress-monitoring systems to support student achievement and intervention planning.

  • Create systems that support both self-paced and teacher-facilitated learning environments.

Future Program Growth

  • Support the development of expanded online course offerings and virtual programming opportunities.

  • Collaborate with district staff to identify innovative approaches for serving students through synchronous and asynchronous instruction.

  • Help establish systems and procedures that allow WISE Academy to scale programming while maintaining high-quality student support.

  1. Environmental Education & Agricultural Learning

Experiential Learning Development

  • Design and facilitate outdoor, place-based, and project-based learning opportunities that connect students with environmental education, agriculture, conservation, and sustainability.

  • Build partnerships with local farms, community organizations, environmental agencies, and educational partners to enhance student learning experiences.

  • Develop learning opportunities that encourage students to explore Wisconsin's natural resources, agricultural industries, and environmental stewardship.

Student Engagement

  • Integrate hands-on learning experiences into virtual programming whenever possible.

  • Promote authentic learning experiences that connect academic content to real-world applications and career pathways.

  1. Student Support & Intervention Services

Personalized Learning

  • Partner with students and families to develop strengths-based individualized learning plans that support student success.

  • Monitor student progress and provide timely interventions when academic, behavioral, or engagement concerns arise.

  • Coordinate with district staff and support personnel to ensure students receive appropriate academic and social-emotional supports.

Intervention Programming

  • Assist in developing and implementing intervention systems for students requiring additional academic support.

  • Use student performance data to identify learning gaps and provide targeted instructional interventions.

  • Support students in developing executive functioning, organization, and independent learning skills.

  1. Family Partnerships & Community Engagement

Relationship Building

  • Establish strong, positive relationships with students and families across diverse educational settings.

  • Provide guidance and coaching to families supporting learning at home.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Maintain consistent communication regarding student progress, expectations, and available supports.

  • Conduct student and family meetings as appropriate.

  • Collaborate effectively with district staff, community partners, and outside agencies.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and communication logs.

  • Participate in professional learning related to virtual education, environmental education, instructional technology, and intervention practices.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (WI DPI) teaching license.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students and families.

  • Experience with instructional technology and virtual learning environments.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.

  • Commitment to personalized and student-centered learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Wisconsin DPI Supplemental Alternative Education license preferred

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems and online course development.

  • Knowledge of LMS evaluation, implementation, or administration.

  • Background in environmental education, agriculture, outdoor education, conservation, or related fields.

  • Experience with project-based, place-based, experiential, or alternative learning models.

  • Experience providing academic interventions and supporting diverse learners.

  • Ability to develop innovative programming and lead educational initiatives.
