DescriptionUnder limited supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, institution, agency, or local government agency, performs professional engineering work including but not limited to water management, air pollution control/management, noise pollution control/management, coastal resource management, hazardous/non-hazardous waste control/management; reviews engineering plans, makes determinations and/or recommendations on plans; field visits, inspections, investigations/surveys; gathers data, researches and analyzes information as it relates to environmental control work; and/or the enforcement of environmental laws and/or regulations; works with Environmental Impact Statements; does related work as required.
Specific to the PositionProcess dam repair permits, dam failure / flood modeling, plan review (including hydrologic, hydraulic, geotechnical and structural dam design), review consultant inspection reports, inspection of dams (safety, construction and emergency inspections), emergency response, review Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and Operation and Maintenance Manuals (O&M).
Preferred SkillsetCivil engineering, computer modeling, GIS, letter writing.
RequirementsEDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Ocean, Coastal, Bio-Resource, Sanitary, Industrial, Agricultural or Mining Engineering, or other field of engineering related to the environment.
NOTE: A valid Professional Engineer's license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of professional experience in environmental engineering work.
NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the fields specified above may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience.
License Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
