STEP/SALARY: BA - 6TH YEAR / $51,079.00 - $107,539.00*

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION / MARINE CONSTRUCTION TEACHER

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and (as necessary) adjusts instructional goals and objectives, to reflect district/school goals,

curriculum policies, and the knowledge, skills, progress at the secondary level.

  • Designs lessons that provide opportunity for problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills in relation to

authentic, real-world problems.

  • Establishes and maintains standards for behavior that foster student self-discipline and positive relationships

among students.

  • Assists advanced students in creating individualized, high-quality marine construction projects.
  • Coordinates with Director and other Tech Ed staff to properly stock and equip the laboratory.
  • Commits to on-going professional development in content area and pedagogy.
  • Plans learning activities to address individual differences among students.
  • Develops, administers, and evaluates quality formative and summative assessments that reflect a balance of

content knowledge and problem-solving skills.

  • Monitors, and evaluates students' progress in relation to district/school curriculum and policies and other planned

goals and objectives.

  • Encourages, secures, and maintains the involvement of parents and other community members in support of

instruction.

  • Involves parents in the assessment of their children's progress and needs.

Qualifications:

  • Required certification: Technology Education (047); Master's degree preferred.
  • Successful teaching experience in woodworking, stitch and glue boat-building or related fields in an urban setting

preferred.

  • Demonstrated skill and proficiency with all wood shop equipment, including but not limited to: table saws, chop

saws, band saws, bench grinders, rotary grinders.

  • Demonstrated skill and proficiency with CNC milling machines, lathes, laser engravers, and other computer based routing/milling/cutting machines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with Computer Aided Manufacturing/Drafting programs (CAD/CAM).

Specifically, AutoCAD, MasterCAM, Solidworks and Vectric programs.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills.
  • This position is in accordance with the Agreement between the Bridgeport Education Association (BEA) and the Bridgeport Board of Education. The salary will follow the contract and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
