Title Work Study Ascend Ambassador Position Description
Program Information:
Ascend is designed to provide individualized and holistic academic support to students on academic intervention. The program includes a specialized orientation session highlighting tools for success, required meetings with an academic advisor, and individualized semester planning and academic coaching utilizing resources in the Academic Achievement Center (AAC)
Position Information:
The Ascend Ambassador supports student engagement, outreach, and community-building efforts within the Ascend program. This paid student employment position is intended for students who have participated in Ascend and are interested in supporting and encouraging fellow students through peer leadership, mentorship, and advocacy.
This position recognizes that students' experiences are unique. Ambassadors are never expected to disclose personal challenges or share details of their academic journey beyond what they are comfortable discussing.
Responsibilities for this role include:
- Commit approximately 10 hours per week during the academic semester based on work-study eligibility and departmental needs
- Attend scheduled team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
- Support Ascend events, workshops, orientations, and outreach initiatives
- Serve as a peer mentor, role model, and resource for students participating in Ascend
- Assist with communication efforts utilizing Microsoft Office, Canva, social media, video, and other platforms
- Help create, organize, and distribute student resources and promotional materials
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Assist with event preparation, setup, check-in, and breakdown
- Represent the Ascend program at campus events, presentations, and information tables
- Contribute to program promotion through student-generated content, reflections, testimonials, or stories, based on individual comfort level and personal choice
- Share strategies, successes, and lessons learned that may help encourage and support fellow students, when comfortable doing so
- Help foster a welcoming community that celebrates growth, resilience, and academic progress
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for students from diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Support general program and office needs as assigned
- Serve as a positive representative of the Ascend program and BSU community
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
- Must have Work Study award in your financial aid package
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Ascend program and BSU community
- Participation in the Ascend program for at least one semester at BSU
- Good academic standing
