Title Work Study Intramural Sports Official Position Description

Department Information

The purpose of intramural sports program at Bridgewater State University is to provide recreation, exercise, and most of all fun to all of our participants. Intramural sports enhance the academic experience by allowing participants to gain important aspects of daily life including teamwork, respect, integrity, competition, and personal accomplishment.

Position Information

The Intramural Official is primarily responsible for enforcing the rules of the game and the policies and procedures of the Intramural program. Intramural officials will assist other staff in the set up and tear down of each facility and activity. Intramural officials must have knowledge of all intramural rules, customer service skills, willingness to learn and conflict resolution.

This position reports to and works with the Coordinator of Intramural Sports, Student Intramural Supervisor, as well as other members of the Intramural staff. In absence of professional staff, the Intramural Official is supervised by the Intramural Supervisor on duty.

Responsibilities include:

  • Knowledge of intramural rules and policies and procedures.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the department and enforce among staff and participants.
  • Communication of game information with other Intramural staff members and participants.
  • Conduct pre-game meeting with captains.
  • Maintain order and control during intramural activity.
  • Wear proper officiating attire (jersey, sneakers and athletic attire)
  • Maintain positive public relations and rapport with program participants and spectators.
  • Serve as a representative of Intramurals to all participants and spectators.
  • Knowledge and application of facility and equipment set up and tear down procedures and its proper storage.
  • Make sure activities start and end on time.
  • Oversee the Intramural contest and ensure participation takes place in a safe manner.
  • Coordinate emergency procedures or provide care in emergency situations.
  • Provide written reports on all incidents, protests, ejections, etc. no matter how minor.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Must have Work Study award in your financial aid package

Preferred Qualifications

Some knowledge of sports recommended but not required.

Physical Demands

Ability to walk or run depending on specific duties.
