Job Summary

Purpose or Role of the Position.

The Office of Admissions is seeking motivated and customer service-oriented student workers to support daily operations and recruitment initiatives. This position plays a vital role in engaging prospective students and families, maintaining a welcoming office environment, and assisting with campus visit experiences. Student workers serve as representatives of the university and are expected to demonstrate professionalism, enthusiasm, and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct student outreach through phone calls, text messaging, and email communication to prospective students and applicants;
  • Provide guided campus tours of both Main Campus and RiverPark Campus, delivering accurate and engaging information about the university;
  • Assist with admissions-related services, including application support and general inquiries;
  • Serve as a front desk attendant by greeting visitors, answering questions, and directing guests appropriately;
  • Support recruitment events, including open houses, accepted student programs, and other special events (some weekends required);
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the office and shared spaces;
  • Perform additional administrative or operational tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment as a student at Columbus State University;

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

  • Customer service-focused with a friendly and professional demeanor;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook);

  • Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in customer service, leadership, or campus involvement.

Proposed Salary

$12/hourly.

Conditions of Employment

  • A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;

  • Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities.

  • Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.

For Faculty Hires: Final candidates will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation.

Position Classification:

Federal Work-Study (FWS) positions are grouped into three general levels based on job duties and required skills:

  • Entry-Level: Basic tasks with little to no prior experience required. Duties may include clerical work, customer service, or general office support.
  • Intermediate: Positions that require some prior experience or specific skills. Duties may include tutoring, lab assistance, or more independent administrative work.
  • Advanced: Roles that require specialized skills, training, or significant responsibility. Duties may include research assistance, technical support, or leadership roles.

Procedure for Determining Pay Rate:

Federal Work-Study (FWS) pay rates are based on the type of job, responsibilities, and skills required. Pay is set within the university¿s student wage guidelines and follows federal and state minimum wage laws.

Rates may vary by position and are determined in coordination with Financial Aid, based on available funding and the student¿s FWS award.
