Location: Remote position for candidates residing within approximately 100 miles of Columbia, Maryland, including the Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia region. Attorneys work remotely but must be available for regular in-person court appearances and other required proceedings.
Note: Candidates must have an active Maryland Bar license, at least 1+ year of workers' compensation law experience, and reliable transportation for regular court appearances. Workers' compensation defense experience is strongly preferred.

Job Description
- Manage a caseload of workers' compensation defense matters from assignment through resolution.
- Represent employers, insurers, and other clients in workers' compensation claims and litigation.
- Prepare for and attend hearings, court appearances, depositions, mediations, and related proceedings.
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, legal correspondence, and case evaluations.
- Analyze medical records, claim histories, and other evidence to develop effective defense strategies.
- Communicate directly with clients regarding case developments, exposure, strategy, and recommended next steps.
- Negotiate settlements and pursue practical, efficient resolutions when appropriate.
- Maintain organized case files while meeting court deadlines, reporting requirements, and billable expectations.
- Collaborate with attorneys and support staff while independently managing day-to-day case responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Active Maryland Bar license required.
- 1+ year of workers' compensation law experience required.
- Workers' compensation defense experience strongly preferred.
- Litigation experience involving hearings, depositions, motions, discovery, or court appearances preferred.
- Strong legal writing, analytical, negotiation, and client communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage deadlines and an active caseload in a remote environment.
- Reliable transportation and ability to attend in-person proceedings required.
- Virginia or Washington, DC bar admission, or eligibility and willingness to waive into those jurisdictions, is a plus.
