Location: Remote opportunity based in California. Candidates must live within reasonable proximity to Los Angeles, Sacramento, Orange County, or Ventura. The hiring process can begin via Zoom, with an in-person interview required before hire.
Note: Active California Bar membership and at least 2 years of California workers compensation experience are required. Job Description
- Manage a full caseload of California workers compensation defense matters with varying levels of complexity
- Open new files, evaluate claims, and develop effective litigation plans and case strategies
- Conduct written discovery, depositions, investigations, and other case development activities
- Prepare for and make appearances before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board
- Communicate directly with clients, claims professionals, opposing counsel, and other parties throughout each matter
- Draft persuasive legal correspondence, pleadings, reports, and settlement documents
- Evaluate exposure and provide practical recommendations designed to move cases toward effective resolution
- Maintain organized files, deadlines, reporting requirements, and litigation calendars
- Collaborate with attorneys and support professionals while independently driving assigned matters forward
Qualifications
- Active California Bar license in good standing
- 2+ years of California workers compensation law experience
- Experience managing workers compensation matters and litigation responsibilities
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to independently manage deadlines and a full caseload
- Strong work ethic, sound professional judgment, and commitment to ethical practice
- Genuine interest in building a long-term career with an established defense practice
- Law firm, in-house counsel, and solo practice backgrounds will be considered
