General Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Loss Control and Work Comp Operations Manager, the Workers Compensation Specialist provides and initiates claims assistance for the School Liability Programs and Workers Compensation Program.

Salary: The full salary range for this position is $49,816.00-$60,611.20. Offers are made at the beginning of the range.

Assignment: Full Time, Year Round.

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:

  • Be primary person that answers calls to the Workers Compensation Program.
  • Complete initial call intake from injured workers or supervisors and follow up with emails and calls with school districts and attending providers.
  • Set up new workers compensation claims in the claim system, communicate with claims specialist and adjusters and provide appropriate correspondence related to new claims.
  • Copy, mail, distribute and otherwise ensure injured workers receive workers compensation claim packets.
  • Obtain wage information from school districts that is necessary to support time loss calculations and claim handling.
  • Print checks weekly for issuance to claimants, providers, and vendors.
  • Receive, open, and scan mail; support receipt and distribution of mail and input into appropriate electronic file system.
  • Prepare workers compensation claim packets, ensure an adequate supply of materials that are included in new claim packets.
  • Work with a team to support efficient operation of workers compensation claim activities.
  • Work with fiscal office to reconcile workers compensation checks at the end of each month.
  • Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Other Functions:

  • Provide back-up administrative support for School Liability Programs including answering School Liability Programs main phone line.
  • Create and manage conference room reservations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working in an office environment.
  • Experience in compliance with state regulations.
  • Experience using Word, Excel or similar software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent successful experience in a regional educational service agency.
  • Two years post high school education.
  • Proficiency in current procedural terminology (CPT) and diagnostic codes for State of Washington.
  • Experience using workers compensation claims specific database software.
  • Experience using medical terminology to read and understand medical documents.
  • Experience working as a claims assistant handling industrial injuries.

Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment.
  • Able to operate keyboard to accomplish required tasks.
  • Able to perform stationary routine and repetitive functions for extended periods.
  • Frequent sittings, stooping/bending, moving up to 25 lbs.
