    The mission of the Idaho Department of Labor is to support individuals through career transitions, determine benefit eligibility, connect employers with workers and oversee tax and labor law compliance.

    The Unemployment Insurance (UI) Compliance Bureau has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Claims Specialist (Workforce Consultant). This position will play a critical role in protecting the integrity of the UI Trust Fund by ensuring benefits are administered accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with state and federal requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong oral and written communication skills, excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, a dedication to quality customer service, and the ability to work independently. This position will be located in Boise.

    Example of Duties:

    • Interview claim customers and employers, gather sensitive information, and provide clear guidance on UI processes, rights, and responsibilities.
    • Review and evaluate UI claims, conduct fact‑finding, adjudicate issues, and issue written eligibility determinations.
    • Assist customers across phone queues, walk-ins, email, and other channels, helping them navigate UI systems and benefit options.
    • Monitor claims and documentation for compliance; identify fraud, identity theft, and misrepresentation through data mining and fraud alerts.
    • Prepare reports, maintain accurate case records, resolve service-delivery issues, and support program planning and operations.
    • Participate in UI Appeal hearings, prepare case materials, and testify as an expert witness when required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. You must attach a resume, work history and references to your application.     • Experience conducting interviews and documenting information. Typically requires one year of experience OR six months of work experience conducting interviews and documenting information AND six credit hours of college coursework in which effective use of communications skills was clearly emphasized.
    • Experience assisting emotional, difficult or confrontational people and individuals from varying socio/economic/cultural backgrounds. Typically requires one year of work experience assisting emotional, difficult or confrontational people.
    • Experience determining and explaining eligibility or qualifications for programs and services. Typically requires at least six months of work experience determining eligibility or qualifications for programs and services.
    • Experience preparing professional written communication. Typically requires six months of work experience preparing professional written communication, including the creation of letters and other correspondence OR six credit hours college coursework in related field.
    • Experience using computer applications. Typically requires six months of experience using computer applications, including experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
