JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Sr. Workforce Development Specialist of the Downtown/Pico-Union WorkSource Center, a PACE managed project, the Workforce Development Specialist II (WDSII) is responsible for providing all ESE and WIOA customers with information and access to program services.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The WDS II will work under the direction of the Sr. WDS to conduct outreach and promote program services to potential participants, community partners, early childhood education providers, and training institutions. The WDS II will locate and place grant customers in volunteer preschool sites; monitor customers' volunteer hours to ensure progress toward applying for or upgrading to an Associate Teacher-level Child Development Permit; collect weekly timesheets; maintain customer records and develop required reports; communicate with PACE personnel as needed; and assist in all aspects of the Child Development Permit application process. Staff will work closely with community colleges and training partners to support customer success, facilitate referrals, and increase awareness of program opportunities within the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a person with professional experience in social services programs. Must have knowledge about Child Development careers, courses and requirements needed and State application, and process to apply for permits needed to work in a pre-school environment. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, be a team player and be able to work with diverse populations, to provide in-person and over-the-phone program services. Be proficient in a Windows PC environment and Microsoft Office. Possess excellent communication and written skills, as well as telephone and people skills. Bilingual in Spanish/English is preferred. Must be available to work evening and weekend hours.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in applying for/helping people to apply for a State Permit to work in pre-school programs. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in customer service, assessment, eligibility determination, and/or counseling is required. Workforce programs experience is highly desirable. Some supervision experience is highly desirable.
EDUCATION:
Minimum of a High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required. Associate degree is preferred.
