    General Job Information

    JOB SUMMARY

    This position is located in the D.C. Department of Corrections (DOC), Office of the Deputy Director of Education, Programs, and Case Management, Workforce Development Division.

    The incumbent in this role is responsible for analyzing, planning, coordinating, and implementing workforce development services, activities, and programs which includes, but not limited to, the Lead Up/Lead Out Program. In addition, the incumbent will communicate with residents and/or returning citizens who require employment assistance and support through counseling, education, and training.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provides detailed information on workforce development services; the application and eligibility process; labor market information; and other available career and supportive service resources. Evaluates, analyzes, and summarizes reports and prepares final reports. Conducts initial interviews with DOC residents and/or returning citizens to determine eligibility and suitability for employment and training services. Reviews and evaluates documentation provided and advises DOC residents and/or returning citizens on information required to complete the intake process.

    Conducts individualized counseling sessions with DOC residents and/or returning citizens to determine appropriate service delivery strategies. Administers vocational tests to identify skills, aptitudes, and interests. Evaluates test results and applies information to vocational planning process. Works in collaboration with other workforce development and human service professionals to address obstacles identified. Conducts follow-up on returning citizens placed in employment to ensure effective functioning on the job. Assesses readiness to transition from work experience to unsubsidized employment.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

    Specialized Experience: Specialized experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. To be creditable, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the line of progression.

    Work is performed in a Correctional Institution.

    Tour of Duty: M-F 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

    Pay Plan, Series and Grade: CS-0142-11

    Promotion Potential: No Known Promotion Potential.

    Duration of Appointment: Career Service Permanent

    Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not covered under a collective bargaining agreement.

    Position Designation: This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and periodic Criminal Background Checks and Traffic Records Checks (as applicable). This position is also subject to mandatory pre-employment and random Drug and Alcohol Testing. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana."

    TB test will be required prior to entry on duty.

    Residency Requirement: Applicants claiming "Residency Preference" will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
