Job Summary

This is a promotional opportunity only open to Benton County Employees.

Public Works Department : Working Foreman - Roads

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for coordinating and implementing the construction and maintenance operation of multiple projects on roads with lead maintenance workers. Contact point for public, jurisdiction representatives and vendors for road related issues. Act in capacity during Road Managers absence and coordinate road emergency response.

Essential Functions

MFA: Leadership

Essential Duties:

  • Oversee ordering and purchasing of material for day-to-day operation.
  • Schedule work with outside agencies.
  • Provides mentoring and teaching to lead workers and maintenance workers.
  • Provide primary contact to public on road related issues.
  • Ensures work is completed in conformance with blueprints, maps, plans and/or County standards/specifications.
  • Assist in preparation of annual Road Division budget.
  • Create activity budgets in road and drainage programs.

MFA: Project Development

Essential Duties:

  • Work with Road Manager on planning project schedules.
  • Communicating with other governmental agencies on planning, coordination and scheduling of outside work to ensure a smooth transition and ensure high customer satisfaction.
  • Operate specialized equipment as needed.
  • Oversee lead workers on projects to assist with troubleshooting and improve efficiencies.
  • May assist with planning, operation, and execution of signage and striping programs
  • Project preparation, job estimates, bid quotes and arrange for project materials for county projects and other government agencies.
  • Will use computer to complete following tasks: pavement evaluation, records of shot rates, rock poundage of chip seals, sign fabrication, and retro-reflectivity upgrades.

MFA: Emergency Management

Essential Duties:

  • Perform emergency functions during standby duty throughout the year.
  • Emergencies include but are not limited to snow and ice storms, high wind with downed trees, flooding, mud slides, traffic accidents all requiring decision responsibility for crew response and action plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following minimum qualifications are REQUIRED for this position:

  • Associates degree or two-year technical certification.
  • 5 years experience in area of assignment
  • Possession of a valid Oregon CDL Class A drivers license with an acceptable driving record.

Special Requirements

  • Must obtain an ODOT flagger card within 6 months after hire.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 6 months after hire.

An equivalent of education and experience may be accepted. Applicants must have at least 6 months of actual work experience to receive equivalency.
