JOB SUMMARY

We have two (2) exciting internal opportunities for the position of Writing Center Coordinator, with one (1) position at the San Jacinto Campus and one (1) position at the Temecula Valley Campus. These reassigned time positions are available to current Full time Faculty unit members and is intended to support the ongoing coordination and development of Writing Center services.

In alignment with the District's commitment to fairness and transparency, reassigned time opportunities are posted and filled through a formal application process. All eligible unit members are notified via District email and invited to apply by the stated deadline, which will be no less than ten (10) working days from the postings closing date. Applications will be reviewed by the appropriate area administrator, with possible faculty consultation, and final selection will be made by the area Vice President.

This reassigned time position is typically a two (2) year term for tenured faculty. For tenure-track faculty, assignments are reviewed and appointed on an annual basis in coordination with the evaluation cycle. Upon completion of the term, and if the assignment continues to be needed, the opportunity will be reposted to ensure equitable access for all qualified unit members. Incumbents are welcome to reapply.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements and duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this class.

  • 25% reassigned time for SJC and TVC Writing Center Coordinators -- Average 5 hours per week (variable depending on needs of the center, in consultation with LRC coordinator).
  • Duties
  • Training:?Assists in 1-2 Friday trainings as directed by area LRC Coordinator
  • Mentoring:? Mentorship of writing tutors, including informal feedback and monitoring of online paper drop off feedback.
  • Evaluation:?Evaluates writing center tutors
  • Communication:?Ongoing communication with LRC Coordinator regarding issues to be addressed, trainings needed, center needs, etc.
  • Department Liaison:?Serve as liaison with departmental faculty regarding issues that arise and ensure effective and transparent departmental communications.
  • On site Presence:?3-5 hours per week (to be completed at least 2 days per week) in the center mentoring, supporting, and working as a resource for tutors and LRC Coordinators. This will vary depending on peak times and need, in consultation with LRC coordinator.
  • Week at a glance:
  • 3 hours in center (more in peak, less off peak - at least 2 days)
  • 1 hour on evaluation/quality control (variable)
  • 1 hour meeting/mentoring/training/workshops/study sessions/writing sessions or Paper Jams (variable)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in English or Communications (attach transcripts)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) years of recent full-time teaching experience in the California Community College system
  • Experience as a tutor or working with tutoring programs
  • Familiarity with tutoring services provided in a California Community College
  • Experience communicating program offerings with various constituent groups
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism, and accessibility and student-centered, asset-minded teaching and learning philosophy

Environment: Work is generally performed in an indoor classroom that may also include working in a lab setting.

Physical: Primary function requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom and or lab setting and may travel from site to site; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist; to lift carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds or more, carrying supplies, equipment; to operate classroom equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
