The Writing Fellow/Academic Support Coordinator—Liberal Arts position addresses the need for personalized instruction and holistic support programs in English and writing-intensive courses, especially for students in underrepresented groups. Primary responsibilities include directing the liberal arts tutoring program in the Tutoring Center, including recruiting, mentoring, and teaching peer tutors; drafting and implementing policies and procedures; providing direct support to students; and collecting and analyzing assessment data. This position is also responsible for designing academic support initiatives to increase success for students in underrepresented groups in collaboration with faculty and Academic Support colleagues. It also serves as the academic support liaison to fine arts and liberal arts departments, including promoting best practices in teaching and assessing writing.
Directs the Liberal Arts tutoring program
Assesses student learning and develops inclusive support practices
Designs learning resources and facilitates learning for students
Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department
The salary range for this position is $26.12 to $37.91 hourly.
A bachelor’s degree in English or a relevant field OR at least 2 years’ experience tutoring writing in a higher education setting
A master’s degree in English or a relevant field
Knowledge of universal/inclusive design and an ability to cultivate an inclusive learning environment for disabled students
Expertise in writing studies and the ability to ability to support a translingual and linguistically inclusive learning environment
Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, religious, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of college students, staff, and faculty
Strong oral and written communication skills
Prior administrative experience in an academic support center
Familiarity with research methodologies in education
Successful college classroom teaching experience
