Job requires working knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures for maintaining and repairing electrical and electronic systems and associated equipment, sufficient to perform a range of varied, non-routine skilled craft tasks associated with water, wastewater and reuse treatment operations. Procedures are established and a number of specific guidelines are available, requiring judgment in locating and selecting the most appropriate methods, techniques and procedures to apply to specific cases. Solves routine or recurring problems and suggests solutions to more complex problems. Completed work is reviewed for technical accuracy and compliance with instructions or established procedures. Regular contact with individuals in other work groups is required to obtain, clarify or provide information. May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and calibrates electrical and electronic process control, monitoring, telemetric, and related equipment such as motor control centers, emergency generator units, electronic and mechanical instrumentation, power distribution equipment, power transformers, lightning arresters, single and multi-point process controls, computer interfacing devices, and lighting systems.
  • Installs wire, conduit, and associated equipment to maintain or modify existing electrical systems.
  • Inspects water and wastewater/reuse treatment facilities to verify control systems, instrumentation, treatment processes and equipment are working properly and makes required adjustments.
  • Provides instrumentation and electrical support to stakeholders.
  • Programs and troubleshoots hardware and software.
  • Maintains logs, records and reports.
  • Reads, interprets and applies information from technical documents, including posting changes to blueprints and other technical diagrams.
  • Operates and maintains motor vehicles, hand and power tools, and electrical, electronic and other testing equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains process equipment.
  • Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.
  • Performs other work-related tasks as required.

OPEN REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of four (4) years journeyman level experience in the electrical and instrument field which must include a minimum of three (3) years experience in the maintenance of electrical and electronic systems and equipment in an industrial facility.

Pass a Physical Abilities Test that is representative of the physical demands of the job.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

A valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) may be required prior to appointment and if required, must be maintained during employment in this classification. See attached procedure.

This position requires that employees be in compliance with JEA procedure ES A0200 A0101 RS 628 Screening Personnel Risk Assessments (pre-hire for "FACTA" designations; pre-hire and recurring for "CIP" designations).

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, where there are some risks and hazards, including noisy, dirty, high humidity and hot and cold conditions; working with high voltage equipment; working in confined spaces; and handling hazardous materials such as hydrogen peroxide, chlorine and caustic soda. Normal sense of hearing and smell; good manual dexterity; normal range of motion; normal sense of balance. JEA employees should not attempt to lift, pull or push a load in excess of 50lbs. without assistance. Care should always be taken when lifting, pushing or pulling in an awkward position.
