Position Overview

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II to support and enhance the production of advanced industrial X-ray systems. This position is responsible for driving process excellence, improving manufacturing efficiency, and ensuring stable, repeatable production of a specialized X-ray tube product line. The successful candidate will serve as a key technical resource for vacuum-based manufacturing processes, process control, equipment validation, and continuous improvement initiatives in a highly specialized manufacturing environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Ownership

  • Serve as the primary engineering owner for manufacturing processes associated with a specialized X-ray tube product family.
  • Establish, maintain, and improve production methods related to ultra-high vacuum (UHV) processing, RF brazing, X-ray tube assembly, and high-voltage power supply manufacturing.
  • Support the integration of new products into existing manufacturing operations while maintaining production quality and throughput.

Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence

  • Drive lean manufacturing initiatives with a focus on one-piece-flow production principles.
  • Analyze process performance using statistical tools, process capability studies, and statistical process control (SPC) techniques.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, cycle time, and process reliability.
  • Lead investigations into manufacturing issues and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.

Process Control and Documentation

  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Product Development teams to establish robust process controls.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.
  • Maintain and update Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) documentation for assigned manufacturing areas.
  • Ensure process changes are properly documented, validated, and implemented.

Equipment and Validation Support

  • Collaborate with equipment engineering personnel on the selection, acquisition, installation, and qualification of manufacturing equipment.
  • Support process validation activities to ensure equipment and processes consistently meet production requirements.
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment and process interactions in manufacturing environments.

Safety and Compliance

  • Promote compliance with company safety procedures and manufacturing standards.
  • Ensure adherence to cleanroom protocols, contamination-control practices, and vacuum-system operating requirements.
  • Support a culture of safe and disciplined manufacturing operations.

Additional Duties

  • Perform other responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Desired Technical Background

Experience in the following areas is highly desirable but not required. Candidates with related technical expertise are encouraged to apply.

  • Ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems and vacuum processing technologies.
  • Vacuum furnace brazing or controlled-atmosphere metal-to-ceramic joining processes.
  • Radio frequency (RF) vacuum equipment and associated manufacturing operations.
  • Chemical processing of metals, including acid cleaning and electropolishing.
  • Welding methods such as TIG, spot welding, and laser welding.
  • X-ray tube manufacturing, electron optics, or high-voltage power supply systems.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or a closely related industrial engineering role.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using data to drive process improvements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Visio.
  • Experience using databases and data-analysis tools such as SQL, Microsoft Access, Minitab, JMP, R, or similar software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods, SPC techniques, and process capability analysis is preferred.
  • Lean manufacturing training and/or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments and technical disciplines.
