Summary: The Yard Associate/Receiving is responsible for safely operating material handling equipment, receiving and inspecting shipments, and organizing inventory to support daily warehouse and yard operations. This role involves shipping and receiving functions, storage and movement of materials, and maintaining equipment to ensure efficient and safe logistics operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or dollies to move, load, unload, and store materials.
  • Inspects machinery and work areas to ensure safety before operations, following all safety regulations.
  • Performs basic maintenance and logging of forklift/equipment use; reports service needs to technicians.
  • Receives incoming shipments, verifying contents against bills of lading, invoices, or purchase orders.
  • Examines incoming shipments for damages or shortages and communicates with shippers/vendors to resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepares and processes shipping documents such as bills of lading and other required forms.
  • Prepares outgoing shipments by weighing, packaging, labeling, and staging materials for delivery.
  • Assists with stocking, organizing, and maintaining inventory levels; participates in cycle counts and audits.
  • Supports essential logistics operations through transportation, storage, and order fulfillment.
  • Ensures a clean, organized, and safe yard and warehouse environment.

  • Basic reasoning concepts such as proper and safe loading practices.
  • The person in this position must be able to complete a forklift operator's certification.
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts in order to calculate order quantities and verification of incoming freight shipments.
  • Knowledge of basic building materials.
