Yard Mule Driver

A warehouse only moves as fast as its yard. Every trailer needs to land at the right door, at the right time, without a wasted minute or a wrong turn.

The Role

As Yard Mule Driver, you are the one who keeps trailers flowing in and out of the yard all day long. You will spot trailers at dock doors, shuttle empty and loaded units between staging areas and parking spots, and keep everything organized so the warehouse team never has to wait on you.

This is a role built for someone who notices details, moves fast without cutting corners, and takes real pride in a well run yard.

What You Will Do

• Safely operate a yard mule to move trailers throughout the facility
• Position trailers at assigned dock doors for loading and unloading
• Transport empty and loaded trailers between staging areas, parking spots, and docks
• Inspect trailers for damage and report safety or maintenance concerns
• Verify trailer numbers, seal numbers, and shipment details before every move
• Keep accurate records of trailer movements, yard activity, and equipment checks
• Coordinate with warehouse staff, dispatchers, and supervisors to prioritize movements
• Complete routine pre trip and post trip inspections of yard equipment
• Watch yard conditions and keep trailers parked safely and efficiently
• Support trailer inventory and overall yard organization
• Follow all company safety policies, DOT regulations, and facility procedures
• Jump in to support warehouse operations during busy periods

What It Takes

• One to two years operating a yard mule, yard jockey, spotter truck, or similar equipment preferred
• Background in warehouse, distribution, logistics, transportation, or 3PL environments
• Strong grasp of yard safety procedures and trailer movement operations
• Comfortable maneuvering trailers in tight spaces and busy yards
• Sharp eye for detail when verifying trailer numbers, seals, and shipping paperwork
• Clear communicator who works well with warehouse teams and transportation staff
• Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus
• Able to work independently while staying safe and productive
• High school diploma or GED required

Schedule & Pay

This is a steady schedule, Monday through Friday, eight in the morning to five in the evening, with a thirty minute lunch built in. Pay starts at twenty dollars an hour, and the first ninety days are a standard introductory period before benefits kick in.

Work Environment

You will spend your shift outdoors and in the yard, climbing in and out of equipment, walking the dock, and staying alert in every kind of weather. Expect to lift up to fifty pounds and stay on your feet in a fast moving environment.
