Reporting to the building principal, the Student Intern Paraprofessional serves as a positive and enthusiastic member of the BASD learning community. The SIP serves to assist in maintaining an educational environment that is conducive to learning. Responsibilities include but are not limited to; assisting with student support tasks as assigned and as within the allowable state and/or federal laws, guidelines and statutes.

Job Summary

As a result of this internship, the SIP will gain experience in professionalism in a workplace environment, knowledge of school and classroom operations and procedures, and experience in developing skills related to student learning and development, classroom management, professional confidentiality, and interpersonal skills.

Essential Position Duties:

  • Provide assistance to teachers, staff and students for the purpose of providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning school or classroom environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

  • Assist with tasks that promote an orderly, safe and pleasant environment.

  • Support recess, bus, hall, and lunch supervision.

  • Support the delivery of classroom materials or activities; examples could include games and learning centers.

  • Perform clerical tasks as related to preparing, duplicating and assembling instructional materials; perform record keeping functions, schedules/ notebooks, etc.

  • Work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisors.

  • Maintain consistent and effective communication with supervisor, YA Coordinator, Human Resources, and/or building principal in regard to performing essential functions of position.

  • Maintain building security and student confidentiality.

  • Adhere to Employee Handbook and District Policy.

  • Perform all other functions and duties as assigned.
