I. JOB SUMMARY
As part of the group treatment team within the residential program, the Youth Development Coach - Level 1 provides trauma focused support and services to the clients within the program by assisting in the day-to-day functions within the residential department.
II. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ensure proper care and supervision of clients at all times.
Provide clients with assistance in completing daily life activities.
Participate in recreational activities.
Maintain discipline of clients; provide assistance with controlling disruptive behavior using agency approved methods of de-escalation and crisis intervention.
Provide transportation to clients as necessary within an agency vehicle.
Ensure that proper welfare, safety, and security and treatment objectives are provided to the clients.
Complete appropriate documentation on a daily basis including but not limited to: activity logs, mileage forms, and incident reports.
Demonstrate commitment to the social sector with a passion for MCHSs mission and vision.
Operate within the guidelines of the Employee Handbook, programs Operation Manual and agency policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
III. BASIC COMPETENCIES
Education and Experience:
1.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
2.
Experience working directly with children preferred.
Knowledge Requirements:
Knowledge of behavior patterns of youth and methods of modifying behavior.
Understanding group dynamics and sensitivity to individual members of the group.
Will participate in 40hours of MCHS orientation.
Will participate in 25hours of annual MCHS trainings.
Will maintain an active CPI training certification.
Skills and Abilities Needed:
Relate to youth and gain their respect and confidence.
Participate in indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
Maintain close proximity to residents to ensure proper monitoring and supervision.
Perform behavior management techniques to control aggressive behavior.
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Exercise appropriate judgment in making decisions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
Attend agency trainings and maintain necessary certifications, including First Aid, AED/CPR, NVCPI and others as determined by the agency.
Maintain a Michigan drivers license and driving record that allows the operation of an agency vehicle to transport youth as needed.
IV. JOB SETTING
The work environment described here is representative of that which an employee will typically encounter during a normal shift. Work is performed in the office, clients' homes, treatment and residential facilities, courts and work sites. Frequent travel may involve exposure to seasonal weather conditions, unsanitary conditions in homes, communicable diseases and unsafe environments. Duties may require contact with persons who are hostile or abusive, or with children who are upset and confused. Work may involve standing, walking, or running for multiple hours during the work shift.
