Youth Engagement Specialist

SHIFT: Overnight Shift

HOURLY PAY RATE: $21.00-$22.00

LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA, USA

Our client is a nonprofit organization providing housing and comprehensive support services to youth and young adults facing homelessness, within a residential shelter setting.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Youth Engagement Specialist provides supervision and delivery of residential services to residents, within the framework of the organization's Mission Statement, Policies and Procedures. This position requires consistent adherence to agency policies, procedures, and practices, including time and attendance, cell phone use, telecommunications, safety protocols, and alert systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide supervision of the shelter, including coverage of the various areas of the facility.
  2. Perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  3. Answer telephones and monitor clients' use of phone.
  4. Complete paperwork as assigned.
  5. Review clients' files on a regular basis.
  6. Work directly with clients doing triage (i.e., field/needs/incident questions).
  7. Inspect common areas for cleanliness and safety on a daily basis.
  8. Monitor clients in the shelter.
  9. Be alert to clients and surroundings even during one-on-one conversations.
  10. Develop knowledge of the current community resources available to clients.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth, young adults, or in a similar setting.

SKILLS: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills. Computer literate (Word, Outlook, Access, etc.) Self-starter and team player with the ability to work with other staff members, clients, vendors, and the public.

TRANSPORTATION: Must have a valid CA driver's license and good driving record. May need to transport clients/staff if required using agency transportation.

KNOWLEDGE/TRAINING: Has and/or willing to obtain training and knowledge in the following areas: Adolescent Development, Crisis Intervention, Multi-Cultural Awareness, and CPR & First Aid.
