Help Students Prepare for Employment and Life After High School

RISE Services is hiring a Youth Job Coach to help students with disabilities explore careers, develop workplace skills, and prepare for employment and life after high school.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in job coaching, education, special education, behavioral support, mentoring, workforce development, human services, or working with teenagers and young adults.

You do not need previous experience with Pre-Employment Transition Services, commonly called Pre-ETS. We will provide training on the program requirements and documentation.

What You Will Do

As a Youth Job Coach, you will work individually and in small groups with students, generally ages 14–21, who have disabilities, IEPs, or Section 504 Plans.

You will help students:

  • Explore careers that match their interests and strengths.

  • Learn how to search and apply for jobs.

  • Create resumes and practice interviewing.

  • Develop communication, teamwork, punctuality, and problem-solving skills.

  • Understand workplace expectations and professional behavior.

  • Build confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills.

  • Explore college, vocational training, and other postsecondary options.

  • Participate in workplace tours, job shadowing, informational interviews, and approved work experiences.

  • Obtain work permits and complete other employment-related steps when needed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging, individualized career-readiness and employment activities.

  • Teach practical job-readiness and independent-living skills.

  • Adapt instruction to each student’s abilities, communication style, interests, and support needs.

  • Help students identify career goals, strengths, preferences, and potential barriers.

  • Prepare students for work-based learning experiences and provide support throughout the experience.

  • Communicate professionally with students, families, schools, employers, and vocational rehabilitation counselors.

  • Coordinate activities around school schedules and student availability.

  • Complete progress notes, service documentation, timesheets, and reports accurately and on time.

  • Follow RISE Services policies, confidentiality requirements, and vocational rehabilitation program guidelines.

  • Participate in required meetings, training, supervision, and quality-assurance activities.

Schedule

Because most students attend school during the day, candidates must have meaningful availability during:

  • Afternoons

  • Evenings

  • Weekends

  • School breaks and holidays

Some daytime hours may be used for school meetings, training, documentation, employer outreach, program coordination, and other approved responsibilities.

Applicants must be able to maintain a dependable and reasonably consistent weekly schedule. The exact schedule will vary based on student availability, authorized services, work experiences, and program needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with teenagers, young adults, individuals with disabilities, or other populations requiring support.

  • Ability to engage, motivate, and build positive relationships with young people.

  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work independently in schools, workplaces, and community settings.

  • Ability to complete electronic documentation accurately and on time.

  • Availability during afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.

  • Willingness to travel throughout the assigned service area.

  • Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and electronic documentation systems.

  • Ability to meet applicable background-check and employment requirements.

A bachelor’s degree is not required.

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following areas is helpful but not required:

  • Job coaching or employment services

  • Teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or youth programming

  • Special education or behavioral support

  • Career counseling or workforce development

  • Human services, social work, psychology, or rehabilitation

  • Working with students who have IEPs or Section 504 Plans

  • Coordinating workplace experiences or employer partnerships

  • Virginia DARS or Maryland DORS services

Who Will Succeed in This Position?

The ideal candidate is:

  • Patient, encouraging, creative, and dependable.

  • Comfortable working with teenagers and young adults.

  • Able to make career-development activities practical and engaging.

  • Comfortable traveling between schools, workplaces, and community locations.

  • Professional when communicating with families, schools, counselors, and employers.

  • Able to manage a flexible schedule and work independently.

  • Organized and committed to completing documentation on time.

  • Passionate about helping young people become more confident and independent.

Benefits

Eligible full-time employees may receive:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • Paid time off and holiday accrual

  • Short-term disability insurance

  • Life insurance

  • Long-term care option

  • Employee Assistance Program

  • Employee Tenure Bonus Program

  • Mileage reimbursement for approved work-related travel

  • Paid training and professional development

Eligibility requirements may apply.
