Meet First Baptist Church Andrews

FBC Andrews is an extraordinarily healthy, mission-driven church with an incredible level of volunteer participation. Over the past decade, the church has successfully transitioned from a traditional model to a contemporary worship style, completely transformed the campus through three major building campaigns, implemented an aggressive servant evangelism strategy in the city, developed numerous local, national, and international mission partnerships, and doubled attendance while reaching a much younger, unbelieving, and unchurched demographic. The church takes immense pride in its community involvement, and if it were to disappear, it would leave a massive void in the city. FBC Andrews views itself as a "hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints," welcoming broken people with genuine love and real answers, and intentionally serving as the hands and feet of Christ to the city.  

About the Youth Pastor

The Youth Pastor will primarily work with students in grades 7-12. This leader must be highly relational and visible in the community, moving fluidly between the church office and public school sporting events, football practices, and extracurricular activities. The FBCA Youth Pastor enjoys significant influence in the schools and community. A major goal for the incoming Youth Pastor is to move current students from the outer circle of attendance into an inner circle of deeper discipleship, committed community, and ministry ownership. The Youth Pastor will be tasked with prayerfully identifying high-potential students and calling them into leadership roles.

The Youth Pastor's responsibilities include:

•  Oversee the strategic spiritual development of students (Make disciples!).   
• Establish a biblical, clear, relevant, and inspiring vision, along with supporting goals, priorities, plans, processes, and programs. 
• Strategically establish, lead, and promote the church's youth ministry outreach and discipleship programs, including Sunday School and Wednesday Night Summit.    
• Recruit, enlist, train, inspire, and oversee a team of volunteers to advance the youth ministry’s vision, mission, priorities, goals, and programs. 
• Evaluate the current state of FBCA students, the youth ministry, and the city. 
• Plan and oversee purposeful youth events, such as retreats, DNOW, camps, fellowships, summer programs, and mission trips. 
• Build connections strategically and cultivate biblical community among the students.   
• Establish an incarnational presence among the Middle School and High School students in Andrews by being regularly visible wherever they gather.
• Establish and maintain a personal and FBCA Youth online presence.  
• Oversee outreach to prospective youth and their families. 
• Coordinate the youth ministry with the church calendar and the church’s overall vision and direction. 
• Prepare, present, and oversee the youth ministry budget.
• Stay informed about current trends, methods, materials, and promotions in youth ministry.
• Follow up with prospects, connect with members in need, and provide biblical and compassionate counsel to students and their families.  
• Accept other assignments as directed by the Senior Pastor.

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Youth Pastor:

Education and Experience

• This could potentially be a candidate's first full-time ministry position if they possess strong character and potential.
• Backgrounds in Young Life, FCA, BSM, or serving as a pastor in a smaller church will be considered.
• Age is not a limiting factor; the church desires someone with maturity, energy, and a growth mindset.
• A Southern Baptist background is the best and most preferred fit. But, in exceptional cases, the church is open to prayerfully consider candidates from other denominational backgrounds, provided they hold a conservative theology and a literal belief in the Bible.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must possess the unique combination of high confidence and deep humility
• An entrepreneurial, risk-taking “fail-forward” mentality
• High emotional intelligence (EQ) and the ability to laugh at oneself and genuinely connect with teenagers
• Strong organizational and communication skills to effectively lead a large volunteer team
• Capacity to move from a ministry "doer" to a "leader of leaders"

Personal Characteristics and Qualifications

• Character outweighs competency; the ideal candidate must be an authentic "Jesus guy" completely devoted to living out a biblical lifestyle. If you have the Christian character, you’ll grow in ministry competence here. 
• Must possess an unwavering commitment to the literal truth of the Bible and a passion for helping students see and accept its relevance to their lives
• Not an uncreative and rigid rule-follower, but rather an adaptable, teachable sponge hungry to grow, and able and willing to take responsibility and chances 
• Not looking for a "professional looking for a job," but someone crazy about God and people who views going to high school sporting events as a privilege, not an obligation
