Job Description
The Youth Program Aide (Part-Time) is responsible for providing a safe, positive, engaging, and well-supervised recreational experience for children and youth participating in City youth recreation and camp programs. This position assists with the implementation of age-appropriate recreational, educational, athletic, social, and enrichment activities designed to promote participation, teamwork, personal development, and enjoyment.
The Youth Program Aide provides direct supervision of program participants and actively engages with children and campers throughout scheduled activities, field trips, games, special events, meals, transition periods, and other components of the camp program. The position is responsible for maintaining awareness of participant locations and activities, enforcing established safety procedures and behavioral expectations, recognizing potential hazards, and promptly reporting accidents, injuries, behavioral concerns, or other incidents to appropriate supervisory personnel.
The employee serves as a representative of the City and is expected to provide courteous and professional service to campers, parents and guardians, coworkers, volunteers, and members of the public. The position requires dependability, sound judgment, patience, enthusiasm, effective communication, and the ability to respond appropriately to changing circumstances in a fast-paced recreational environment.
The Youth Program Aide works collaboratively with other camp and recreation staff to prepare activity areas, maintain equipment and supplies, facilitate programs, monitor participants, maintain clean and orderly facilities, and support the overall operation of assigned recreation programs. Duties and responsibilities may be modified at any time to meet the needs of the organization.

Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred; an equivalent combination of education, training, volunteer service, or relevant experience working with children or youth may be considered. Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
CPR, First Aid, AED, or other certifications may be required within a timeframe established by the department based on assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous paid or volunteer experience working with children or youth in camps, recreation programs, schools, childcare programs, athletics, after-school programs, or similar settings.
Experience leading recreational games, sports, arts and crafts, educational activities, or youth enrichment programs.
Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
Experience providing customer service in a public-sector, recreation, education, childcare, or community-service environment.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in an active and changing environment.
Supplemental Information
Part Time employees are not eligible for employer paid benefits or vacation. Part Time employees are eligible for 4 hours of holiday pay.
